The wheel studs are bigger than the older Mustangs so the higher torque to 150flbs can be achieved. Would 100 flbs be Ok more than likely. I have a torque wrench in the tool box that I use when building an engine so why not grab it. If one has been doing wheel changes/rotations feel tightness over years will work fine.

Why would the manufacturer publish an instruction manual (aka Owner's Manual) saying 150 ft-lb if 100 ft-lb would suffice? Why use SAE 5W-30 motor oil, why not use 10W-30 or 5W-50. My point? The Owner's Manual was established with content from the experts. Who knows best?

To be fair the same 'experts' were previously recommending 5W-20 oil and to change it after the OLM tells you to, possibly at 10,000 mile intervals.

If you have ever worked with engineers like I have they sometimes can over design and over spec. You can usually never go wrong going by the manual. As far as oil Ford has changed weight oil weight several times over the years dependent on cafe. Antifreeze type has also changed.

In Europe they advice 0W30.

I believe all of the Coyote engines called for SAE 5W-30, the only diff being the GT350 and I believe it called for SAE 5W-50. I'm confident the oil changes came from clearance / tolerance changes in the diff Gen engines. Again, the engine builders / engineer's are the ones advising us what SAE oil to use.

I'm talking about the last couple years before they switched back to 5W-30 in 2021. Meanwhile they always said to use thicker oil 'at the track' in the manual. And the track pack cars recommended 5W-50, with the exact same engine as the regular GT.

They started with 5W-30 for the modular engines, then switched to 5W-20 somewhere around 2001, and now they switched back.

Will 5W-20 protect your engine? It obviously does. But is it 'the best' oil? No.

The engines never changed when they changed the oil specs. Remember they have more people than just the engineers deciding stuff. They probably do facepalm when an decision like that gets pushed down.

Automakers get tiny fuel mileage increases from thinner oils that multiply across millions of cars, things like that. Total Cost of Ownership goes down when they recommend higher oil change intervals, etc. Probably the same reason they have 'lifetime' fluid fills in some cars these days...

Some old quotes, not to turn this into an oil thread...

Mike Riley, Product Design Engineer with Ford Motor Company:

Quote:
"Moving to 5w20 was driven by ... CAFE requirements. The company believes the switch to lighter viscosity 5w20 oils will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 190,000 metric tons a year and reduce US fuel consumption by over 21,000,000 gallons a year."

Scott Whitehead - Engine Development Systems Engineer, Ford Motor Company:

Quote:
"I've seen the dyno testing. I've probably looked at several hundred engines disassembled and spread out on inspection tables. And I've been involved in testing to resolve issues where varying the oil viscosity was part of the test. Please do not put 5w-20 or less into a mod motor. Please. This is especially true in 4v motors. 5W-30 is probably a good oil for the street with mixed temperatures."

FRPP Group:

Quote:
"DO NOT go back to using 5w-20"
