hello folks,

i am so disappointed, some pulls and spirited driving and my temperature goes to 245 on the trans. the car goes into what appears to be limp mode until trans cools down. how come ford sells you a mustang like this? you cant drive it like is meant to be driven? anyone with same complaint?

I constantly hear I can't understand why my transmission, engine etc. is overheating when I am just driving it in a "spirited" manner or what I am doing is "normal". Neither term has any meaning whatsoever. as there are no meaningful empirical data points to those adverbs/adjectives. Even passenger cars have towing options for just towing a jet ski that involve additional cooling. How many RPM are you shifting at? How many times do you do that in succession? What is the ambient air temperature, the humidity? If you want to drive this car like a road racer then start with auxiliary transmission coolers - an inexpensive solution. If you are really flogging it (and I suspect many owners are) then increase your engine cooling capacity too. - again not that expensive. This is basic physics as in thermodynamics not rocket science or voodoo magic.

"pulls and spirited driving", while in Miami, FL, when air temps are 85 F / 30 C at sea level.

Ford had different objectives when they defined their offerings. A PP or DH might have suited your driving style and environmental conditions better. A dedicated trans cooler, larger than any factory unit, would be a great mod.

I did not study what's on offer for the S650, but Mishimoto is one company of several that get good reviews for their products. The following link shows the differences between the stock S550 PP unit and something they designed.

I'm also including some 6G track references, to give you some ideas what can be done to mitigate heat when laying into one of these cars.

with yours being a base GT, you very likely dont have the auxiliary transmission fluid cooler. yours probably has the standard cooler, which only uses the coolant, and if your trans temps are that high, your coolant temps are probably pretty high too, so thats not doing much of anything. the GT performance package changes it so that there are lines going to a heat exchanger between the radiator and condenser as well. its not that Ford doesnt want you to drive a certain way, its that Ford expected people who get the transmission fluid or oil really hot would get the GT performance package, as it has dedicated heat exchangers for those fluids. if you look at the gauge for trans fluid temp in the My Mustang menu, you will see that the danger zone for the transmission fluid is about 260F if i remember right.

unfortunately, at this time it looks like nobody, not even Ford Performance, makes a kit to retrofit that heat exchanger, and it might be more worthwhile, especially if you expect to do spirited driving a lot, to trade in for one with the GT performance package, which also adds Brembo brakes, a bigger radiator, an auxiliary oil cooler, a strut tower brace, and the drift brake.

off topic, but what happened to your 2024 GT PP manual to make you get a 2025 GT base auto?

It is not “how come Ford sells you a Mustang like this”, it is you bought the wrong Mustang from Ford.
Trade it in and buy a PP or a DH like you should have in the first place and problem solved.
