Motor 1 reports significant drop offs in mustang sales.

Perhaps the fact that their most loyal audience, hot-rodders, have been locked out of doing anything with the vehicle, combined with out-pricing the average consumer and they've created a perfect sink hole: "Too expensive; to locked down to do anything with."

Excellent points!

I suspect another factor is cars are just not as central (self image, lifestyle, hobby, etc) to recent American generations as they were/are to ours. Sadly. 😟

I won't/haven't let ANY of my Grandkids drive any of my cars. I love 'em, but they are such automotive barbarians/trash! 😆

I would bet fun car sales are down across the board. Saying mustang sales down without reference is just "click bait trash talk" basically irrelevant.

It's real easy to look at this and think the Mustang is doomed because sales are bad compared to the Mach-E. Everyone needs to consider that the ICE Mustangs have undergone large price hikes and large dealer mark-ups which are driving the once affordable pony out of the reach of many enthusiasts. On the other hand, the Mach-E has had price cuts, dealer incentives and savings, reduced APR financing, and in some states qualifies for a tax credit, bringing the overall cost to purchase significantly lower than that of the traditional Mustang.

In context, this makes it look much less likely that people are buying the Mach-E because demand is high and people want them, but rather the demand wasn't high enough for what Ford produced and they needed to put them on sale to offload the inventory they had sitting on lots. It may take a few years, but I think everything will balance out.

I feel like new cars just aren't better than something built 8-10 years ago. So why upgrade?

I would like to want a new Mustang, but I prefer not to have direct injection, PWTA cylinder bores, over 4,000 lbs weight or a huge price tag.

And I don't think the issues are specific to Ford. Heck, Dodge is completely lost. GM doesn't make a sporty vehicle with a manual transmission anymore. Porsche prices are crazy. My opinion is that every automaker needs a reset.

There are way too many small turbo engines out there. Even the 5.0 is overstressed now. Ford should have gone to a larger CI engine to make additional power. Quality is down at almost every automaker.

I agree. Lack of tuning and the cars being too expensive now has greatly led to their reduction in sales.

I think it’s several factors combined:

New model costs have outpaced wage growth.

Interest rates are still too high.

Many people are too far upside down on their current vehicle to trade it in due to overpaying during the past supply chain shortages coupled with market corrections trending used vehicle values downward.

Lately I’ve been considering updating my 23 C8 to a 25 model C8 or a Dark Horse and I’m amazed at how many new 24 models are still on the lots for sale here in March of 2025.

My '13 GT Premium stickered in the higher 30s, and was discounted something like 5 grand or more. Think I walked out the door with a 35K loan and a $550 a month payment, and my credit sucked.

Now I'm looking at a GT Premium convertible, 12 years later, and it is going to be over 70K!

People don't know what they are missing. This is Mustang #9 for me and definitely my favorite by a lot.
Less on the road just means mine is more unique!

You are so down on the S650 why are you in this forum? Your opinions in my opinion are just not based in reality. The S650 in my garage could not be a better, more reliable or more comfortable. New cars and technology just works well.

And worth every penny. I also aside from my DH have a grabber blue 2013 convertible right next to it awaiting for spring.
