Roush sells a clear lid with filters. The kit is like $550. For what is likely a zero hp gain

do you know if these lids work on the factory air box with KN filters by chance? They do look neat.

Also, any chance you guys noticed any extra performance with these filters at all? Trying to decide if I want these white ones with the clear lids since they are on special right now or opt for the KN filters with the clear lids. I will save about 75 bucks if I go with these white filters over the KN's...

I wouldn't say they are garbage. They are well made. The ROI isn't there. I knew I better but didn't do better.

They don't filter well, they dont flow better, they foul up MAF sensors due to over oiling, and I certianly wouldn't say they're well made. Compared to other available products, they are snake oil surviving on name brand recognition and false marketing. Id says thats pretty close to garbage .

I had it to do over again I’d just remove the honeycomb and call it a day

So, speaking as a dummy, what are the traps really for, and why remove them? I've heard removal has no benefit.

its to catch/absorb fuel vapor mostly because auto start stop
but i guess it would slightly help when parking too the minuscule about it of vapor that comes out.

but the idea is it temporarily absorbs it from a start stop even then when you get moving again it evaporates back out and gets burned off cleanly

its likely doing very little if any thing but you know stupid epa rules

OK. As in when the engine shuts down, some unburned fuel vapour passes through open valves back into the intake system? And if I never use start/stop they're not needed.
Seems like a lot of effort to do SFA.

Yes exactly
Pretty much not needed if you don't use start stop you could argue it also happens when parked but yeah.

My dh does not come with start stop so luckily I don't even have to turn it off.

And my Whipple air intake does not have the same design as stock where there a big flower it just has a ring on the outer edge so it does not restrict flow

Some people say the carbon traps also help smoth the air flow in the intake tube for the maf sensor but it really does not matter on s650 as maf is backup the main way these engines run is map

I bought the clear covers and they are great. As for the K&N filters, they are nice filters, but a little overhyped. Anyone who puts an oiled filter on a modern vehicle is not paying attention. I will fault K&N for even offering oiled filers for modern cars and my personal opinion is that oiled filters are worthless with the materials technology today.
