So I went for my first oil change yesterday, and I had 3406 points from the purchase of said car. Thinking the points would cover the oil change, I only got $17.03 off my bill. Does this sound correct, or am I delusional?

At some point in 2025 they also dropped the new car purchase bonus from 42000 ($210) to 32000 ($160)

Yep. I got 42,000 when I purchased my new 2022. 32,000 with purchase of my 2025. Spent all my points on accessories.

Won't be taking my car back there for anymore oil changes.
add me to that list...

I paid 130 Friday for full synthetic at ford dealer for my maverick....oil was 12 bucks a quart....the same oil that is 5.00 a quart in jugs as wally world...

I would never put $5 Walmart oil in my car. Quality synthetic runs $12-$13 a quart. The dealer isnt upcharging you. Its pretty normal for a 10 quart oil change to run $120+.

Ford gave me a quite a few more points when I bought a 22 F250 Lariat than when I bought my 24 F350 Lariat. They have really gotten cheap.

I wouldn't either...I'm talking Mobil ONE full synthetic in a five quart jug 24.99 lol....A 6 quart oil full synthetic change should be about 65 not 130...The dealer IS up charging...ar he was...can't wait for the survey lol...

Long story short: the Ford Rewards point system has little long-term value. For most, it's best to spend the initial points on something that will compliment a new car purchase, then let things lapse.

Regarding the cost of oil changes, enclosed is a thread with some recent comments. The average price of an oil change for a GT is about $150. This, for ten quarts of synthetic oil, a filter, 1/2 hour + of labor, and equipment/facility overhead. My comments aren't to question or support the price.

I have not paid attention to my Ford Rewards points or Ford's credit card offers. Most people I've read of spend their points on accessories, like a battery tender or floor mats and then draw things to a close.

In buying a new gas vehicle, the buyer earns 31,000 points, or $155 (200 points = $1) in cash terms. If an EV or hybrid, less. $155 back on a new vehicle purchase.

When purchasing eligible services, each dollar spent earns 10 points, the equivalent of .05, at the lowest tier. So 5% back. Spend more and the points become a bit more valuable.

But points expire at the end of 18 months. How much are you going to earn in 18 months on a new vehicle?

For virtually everyone, you'll reach a rolling average. In the example of a $150 oil change, you'll earn the equivalent of about $7.50 in credits each time. It'd take 20 oil changes to earn $155. Twenty oil changes in 18 month rolling average for one free oil change, or 5% back.

That amount of oil changes in the period mentioned isn't realistic. But the paragraph gives perspective what the points and system are worth.

Complain about the high price of an oil change if you please. But, at the same time, be thankful you don't own a similarly-priced Audi or BMW!
