I took my Whipple GT to Bakersfield dragstrip tonight. There was a beautiful red dark horse stage two doing 140 in the quarter. He was racing me. I saw him way up and smoke city he blew that motor up. I saw smoke car from the back later when he pulled over under the hood he said he had no warranty stage one then he upgraded two stage tw. poor kid. I hope he’s got an engine lift in a good line of credit. I figured that was it for me. I stopped one home poor kid.šŸ˜” that was my fifth and final run of the night. I thought hell no I’m not pushing my luck. I got the stock stage one.

That is some timeless beauty right there.
Much appreciated...Bonus pic of the legendary Pontiac "tripower" set up (3x2 bbls or "three deuces" as my Dad says they called them back in the day).

Thats the reason im not even going to suoercharge mine. Leave it stock.
Nothing to do with being supercharged. They have the GT500 rods. I have 33k miles of mostly DIE MUSTANG DIE miles on mine. Usually what grenades a built engine is either hitting the rev limiter over and over either on purpose or on accident while under load, or, shitty gas/tuning and going lean.

EDIT: But that said, I can respect staying NA on a DH. Kinda wish I did.

Far more likely to damage the piston than even the non-DH rods

Oh yes it does. The car makes 300hp more.
That means it has to deal with more load. That doesn't come for free. It takes it toll.

The Coyote pistons are not a weakpoint at the level of power a stage 2 Whipple produces. Unless, of course, you have sudden detonation from bad fuel and/or going lean.

But of course, to your point, any detonation while making that much power on (albeit fantastically engineered) hypereutectic pistons will absolutely spell death.

Nah, 800-900rwhp not enough power on it's own to sling a rod or crack a stock piston. They can hold ~1300rwhp full send reliably for quite some time before going. If the tune is sound and the fuel is good, at best a Stage 2 with full bolt-ons is making ~70% of that. Should last for several years before needing a rebuild. It's kinda what the platform is famous for all these years.

If it's not the tune or bad fuel that killed his engine, it's far more likely he didn't replace his oil pump gears and timing sprocket, as those are the only weakpoints in the engine when going from stage 1 to stage 2. And they WILL make themselves known if you drag race, typically shattering coming out of the hole where the shock is greatest and then starving the engine of oil down the track.
