Yes but it seems everyday we seem to get closer to Russia. Covid proved that.
The rhetorical response that morphed into fanatical forced compliance was astounding

Probably a Cornwallis descendant :p
Nah, Cornwallis knew when his ass was kicked and made a fool of. Not everyone "over there" has realized that yet.....but then he has the interweb to make him think he know things. 🤣

Any car that gets firmware updates over the air can be shut down remotely already. The difference is who can do it.

Basic, real-world, example: Ford tried to fix a basic recall item on my F150 via a remote wireless update. It bricked the truck for a week.

Unintentional in this case, but just as easy to do intentionally.

Shame some don't know how to use it to learn things ehh?

Perhaps you would like to show me one thing I have posted not backed up by evidence rather than opinion?
Sometimes it’s not the data but the interpretation. Debate is good, bickering not so much. Although, at times funny.

if we’re way off topic we may suffer the ‘remote shutdown’ by mandate but then again trees, forests, and what not.

Hybrids, ev’s and even ice are all dependent upon software that manages a battery. Remote shutdown (drunk driver mitigation) is simply a means by which another is able to auto stop start your car. If the concept becomes a requirement and they rig it so if you disable the modem and it bricks the car would that become problematic?

Anyone who is genuinely upset by this is just blind to the fact this fight was lost back in 2001.
I don't even know why this thread exists. When the interweb first came out, I pulled up a search engine and entered "personal privacy". Not to my surprise, there is no such thing. I learned to do research before there was an interweb and that has helped me imensely since then. Nah, I'm not upset. I have cars they can't touch and other things that don't exist. Come get me.

I tried explaining to people the bitched about “2 iPads on the dash”

we are a few generations from NOT having a steering wheel in the car
Fully autonomous network vehicles is the long term plan.

no one can stop progress.

Yeah, so we should just let it keep getting worse.

Epic
It's worked for everyone for 25 years. It's a cycle with you all. Moan and complain online about government surveillance, say you would never vote for that, then vote for someone that does exactly that, then act surprised when you see legislation boosting government surveillance. We gave up our right to privacy in 2001 when we let the Patriot act go uncontested. We opened Pandora box and have been staring at it saying "someone should probably close this" ever since.

Of course some people really like the new dash.

Fully autonomous vehicles will never cope with British country roads even if they may work on motorways.

The world moves on and the future will be for those in the future. I certainly wouldn't want to go back to the Benz Motorwagen

1. You do not know me
2. You do not know my political affiliation
3. I was legally unable to vote or have a say in the Patriot Act. Not everyone on this forum is a 65 yr old.
