How much would you be willing to lose to buy a DH?

I've asked a similar question elsewhere:

Cost to get out of a BMW M2 and into a DH would be around $17K including tax and title.

That is quite a lot, but on the other hand I'm at an age where this may be my last new car, and it's almost definitely going to be one of the last 500 HP NA V8s available with a manual transmission.

I do, however, have a bit of an issue with the fact that the interior is built and finished the same as an Ecoboost with lots of trim rattles and the "carbon fiber look" vent housings, and that I've yet to find a Ford dealer that treats you well for sales or service.

Not like I stare at the vents, but it's pretty obvious once you notice it.

Would you do it? It's insane to lose $17K, but it would be even more later as my current vehicle depreciates more and DH prices inevitably go up over time.

I once had a line on a GT, but after feeling the Tremec that became a non-negotiable for me if I switch into a Mustang.

Desired config: Grabber or Adriatic, hood stripe delete, no handling package, floor liners with mats, and I'd get the extended warranty from Granger.

Use case: Just a fun weekend/pleasure driver, no track visits. I'd get a GT if I could option it with the Tremec but I'm a manual transmission zealot.

That is such a personal question . . . I cannot answer it for you.

With that having been said, I was looking at a (used) BMW M5 Competition with 617 horsepower when I decided to pull the trigger on a new Dark Horse with the handling package. I do not regret (regrat?) my decision.

Well if the transmission is what’s holding you back, just get the GT… the tremec isn’t all that, it’s not like it’s got a real T56 spec tremec in it.

Honestly, unless you are in love with the Dark Horse name, a GT will serve you well. Get the GT with a 6 speed, better gears in the rear, active exhaust, BREMBO brakes, premium trim to be comfortable. B and O Stereo if you are a music guy. Upgrade the wheels. Or get a GT with the Performance Pack. If your car like mine is a weekend pleasure car, the GT is great! I advise against RECARO seats. I have the A-10 Auto and it's great. My best friend has the 6-speed transmission and has no complaints.
At my age, I like to go like hell in comfort...mission accomplished!

Mine doesn't have trim rattles, and I can live without perfectly styled interiors. The Mustang interior works well for the driver.
It's a trade off for a cheap (relatively) high performance, good handling, good looking car.

Exactly why would you want to lose any money? Why not go out and buy a cheesy Mustang you down-graded pretty well. Surely at an old age you can afford two or more cars, no? I've had a plastic BMW and that was the first and last one. Where do they fail........the plastic parts under the hood go "snap"...... 🤣

The $17K is based on selling a 2026 M2 and using the proceeds to buy a 2026 DHP.

You've lost it anyway, you just haven't eaten it YET.

Oh, I know that, same as with any other car.

Actual loss of value on the car is $11K, the other $6K taxes.

The same would be true if you turned around and traded in a new 2026 DH for something else.

You would be better off with a GT unless you want to play at a track with your car. Check that out carefully......that's called "free advice". Good luck. FD1

To me, the Tremec is worth $5K or more for its sharp, almost gated shifts.

The GT I had been looking at had MagneRide and the Performance Package so it was a de facto DH anyway.

No Recaros on either.
