As for the trades, yes there is a trade shortage. But not everyone wants to be a blue collar worker with aspirations of starting their own HVAC business. Lol
Very true. I'd like to see half the people from my high school graduation class attempt to be a roofer in july. Not even I want to do that.

I know of two people who are or were roofers, and both of them have told me to never get into that field of work. They both have back problems.

I'm going to reiterate: I'm not saying to be picky about employment, nor am I saying one specific type of job is the only valid starting point. But I do think it's fair to disqualify an entire field if there's legitimate risk of personal harm or deterioration of health. It's not worth it if you make a million dollars but can't even stand up straight afterwards...

1. That's kind of what happens when you spend a couple decades saying "overpopulation is going to be the end of us"
2. I wouldn't consider African nations to be our enemies. And our largest enemies have lower birth rates than we do.
I wasn't referring to countries as such. There are other groupings

Due to the potential for carpal tunnel syndrome that would eliminate even the most menial desk job. Roofing in july aint bad, depends on location and if you’re doing hot tar or shingle piece work. Heck if you do it right, nice tan and winters off.

The rich are richer, the poor are poorer, and the middle class isn't comfortable anymore.
In our case, the rich are richer, the "poor" are better off, the middle class has been squeezed dry.
They're the ones heading to Australia.

I got out of the auto repair business for a reason myself. It doesn't pay for shit, everyone has health issues, etc etc.

I was only in it for 5 years, and I left with (I think) nerve damage in my left hand, back issues, and the lingering thought of possible inevitable arthritis in the future. Not counting all the cuts, scrapes, scars, etc. Had I stayed in, I'm sure other issues would arise with the constant chemicals I was handling, breathing, etc. Gloves and a mask only go so far.

Not willing to stick it out for another 30 years so I can make a 40 an hour when I can just jump immediately to a number of different fields that basically pay that starting.

I skipped pages 2-6 of this thread, so forgive me if this has already been asked and answered. According to what I found on the web (not an AI response) starting assembly line workers at Ford plants get $25-29/hour (depending on the source) and go up from there. For a starting wage, that's pretty good IMHO. So then why are these kids needing to work 2 or 3 jobs? That's $50K a year, and quickly goes up from there, which is enough to live on in nearly any city in the USA that has assembly plants. What's the problem?

A lot of people get psychology degrees and such, then feel the need to get a job that directly pertains to that degree.

Many people in their 20's do not want to 'debase' themselves with jobs which they feel are subpar compared to what they studied for. I get it, but also, get a f^cking job, lmao.

otherwise, they just get jobs that are easier to manage instead of a proper career job if said career job is not in their field. They'll prefer to work at multiple fast food joints and doordash over working a factory job

Ok. I got put in forum time out. I didn’t realize that there were rules, or even that there was an administrator that oversees things.
Didn’t mean to cross a line or offend. I thought we were all just sharing our opinions on a non-Mustang social topic. I will be assimilated to the Borg.

And there lies the disconnect. 50k a year is not enough to live on in "nearly every city in the USA". At least not enough for home ownership and supporting a family.

Now I have no idea what the cost of living is near those line workers jobs. Maybe 50k gets you a lot more. But here in Phoenix you need to make 67k a year to afford an average priced one bedroom appartment and make a the average car payment.

It helps to read the rules when you join.
