That sucks.

I get full synthetic on rockauto for $5.43 a quart.
Yep, that's what I used to get it for and about $1 more per qt for shipping. Made an order for 2x 12 packs (for 2 Mustangs, 2022 S550 and 2024 S650) today and BOOM F.U. AZ. Now it's in the $10+ per qt range at other retailers. So PUP from Wally World it is. I have half a change (5 qts) left over from the previous 2x 12 packs.

RockAuto is BY FAR the cheapest, bestest for Jeep parts as well. No one else comes close to their Mopar/Dana prices. That lifeline is now gone.

Try amazon for full synthetic?
Same as local dealer, about $3 more per qt. including shipping. RockAuto is $5.40/qt plus about $1 per qt for shipping when bought in bulk, local dealer $9.32 per quart, Amazon $9.25/qt (and have a whopping 4 in stock right now). There's even eBay sellers that have it around $10 or more per quart. I imagine it would be a lot less if only Motorcraft made it in 5qt jugs, but it's qt or bulk only. No local auto part stores nor Walmart even carry it. We have two Mustang GT's, so used to buy two full cases at a time from RockAuto since it's a bit tedious to source. FK it, time to switch to another brand.

I buy my PUP from WalMart online pretty cheap in 5 quart jugs. You can only get three at a time from Amazon last time I checked.

Walmart has the deals on oil. Hard to beat Supertech full synth for $18, Castrol Edge for $23, Mobil 1 (on sale) for $25, Pennzoil Platinum for $24, and Royal Purple for $33 if that's your choice...Plus they have Motorcraft filters

Yeah thanks, I get PUP and filters from Walmart for the three other vehicles at the house (wife's Dodge Durango Hemi, daughter's Jeep Wrangler, my Jeep Wrangler). But for the 2 Mustangs (mine and my sons), Motorcraft full syn from RockAuto. For now I may get it locally at Ford Dealerships at 50% more than RockAuto price. We have 3 Harleys too (that all get HD oil and filters). Fkn sucks, but its the price of living in paradise I guess.

try getting so much as a grip screw for a firearm sent to MA then talk to me.

AZ wants their sales tax money, as does every other state.

except NH, we don't have that problem.

Am I reading this correctly, or is Rockauto not concerned at all about future compliance, but taking this action due to a determination from Arizona about pre-2018 sales?

A sale today has no concerns about how it is calculated.

The court case is about old stuff.

It struck me that RockAuto is stopping sales to get folks to be angry with their government so that maybe it will stop collection.

Or am I off base?

I think you're mostly correct. It's from unpaid tax revenue pre 2019 due to RockAuto not having operations in the state, but after several appeals Az Dept of Revenue won the case on the grounds that having Az suppliers ship directly to customers or accept returns from customers constitutes a presence in the state. RockAuto is stopping sales because they don't want to run the risk of being out of compliance again given Az's complex tax rules and how tight their margins are and how little they've made in the state over the past 20 or so years. I am sure part of it is them being punitive, but it seems mostly about risk.

For me it's not just about saving $120 a year on two oil changes for two mustangs, it's also about keeping up on other maintenance items for all the 5 cars at my house. Their OEM prices are far below anyone else, such as store.mopar, com, quadratec.com, et. al. I recently bought the Motorcraft diff fluid, XL3 addititive, DCT fluid, Dot 4 LV, rear shock as well as Mopar diff fluid (some of which retails for $90 a quart) and steering linkage. I was about to drop $1500 with them on my 2008 jeep for ball joints, and "while I'm in there" new axle shafts. They not only have great prices, but also availability on parts that are getting harder to source from other places. So this is hundreds of dollars a year in savings on thousands of dollars in parts.

Disagree, but I admit I could be missing something. The reason for the dividing line is the internet sales must from 2019 charge sales tax in the delivery state (Arizona).

There is no longer a physical presence requirement. That was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2018 in the South Dakota V. Wayfair case.

So there is no "risk" moving forward because RockAuto is collecting and paying the sales tax, not just in Arizona, but in every state that has a sales tax.

Stopping sales into the state over a court case for 2018 and prior sales taxes is nonsensical.

Can you buy from Amazon, Partsgeek, etc?

Most stuff from Rock Auto is half of what the parts stores charge. And some things like brake rotors might be 25% of the retail price!

It would suck to lose the ability to buy cheap parts like that.
