Is tuning a stock car on 93 worth it?

For an update for anyone who cares, with the soler performance throttle controller since my last post I've scaled back the mode from sport 3 to sport 1 and it has been fine. Still goes when I hit the gas without the stock throttle lag, but also doesn't feel too jerky or jumpy.

Comfort 8 is where mine sits on the DH manual.
After a few months, I Still think it is the #1 best mod for non-tuned Mustang as far as seat of the pants transformation of how the car drives.

I leave mine on Comfort 8 still. Plus I have finished my tune, where I tip into power sooner with more aggressive power enrichment and timing.

The two together are chocolate and peanut butter; feels like a dog pulling on its leash now, but disciplined and so smooth when you let it slip.

I was wondering if I’d be selling the throttle controller once I tune it, so it’s interesting to hear they work well together.

Yes, they do. My tune is looking for throttle input, and the Soleris delivers it. If I want to tone it down out on the roads, just a simple adjustment on the app. No need to stop, refresh, and that's assuming I have enough signal to Hotspot, which often isn't the case here in Bumfuck By The River.

Glad the throttle controller helps you guys... Maybe the accelerator pedal is bad from the factory? The reason I say this is because the one in my S197 was always very touchy/jumpy from day one. You had to use care in the rain or tires would easily spin. After many years, the accelerator pedal went out and had to be replaced. The new pedal was not touchy at all, very linear... so could be an issue with some of the guys with no throttle response (pedal not linear), just throwing that out there. Perhaps you guys are putting a band aid on something you didn't know was broken.

There’s nothing broken.
Factory pedal makes you have to mash the pedal further than I want to when coming off clutch in 1st or just in general.
Most people may not care but I do like having it ramp up faster. It makes a huge difference with my driving style.

If you ever track the car you will appreciate that extra "room" in the pedal which gives you a lot more control over the throttle when at speed and trying to maximize your acceleration from turns.

"Ramping up faster" means less control over the car on the track at part throttle.

I drove my car today (24 GT auto) a good bit after installing my tune (93 octane) from pbd and its definitely a little quicker. The throttle response is better along with improved shifting. I have to send data logs in and will likely get a revised tune so I may get a few more hp yet. My next step will be e85 or headers or both. The tune on a pretty much stock car doesnt pin you back in the seat so if your expecting that just hold off until you get headers or more modifications in general.

Any more updates? Do you have a 6 speed or the 10 Auto? How can you tell is a little quicker on 93? Thanks again!

I have tracked cars and I agree.Track mode still works very well at giving the throttle a linear response . It is very easy to switch back to stock with my Soler performance iPhone app.

You are correct. Which is why if I went, I could simply disable Soleris to be track-ready.

For tooling around country backwoods, which is my jam, the "rocket pedal" is where it's at. I've done a lot of WOT pulls while tuning lately, and the depth of the pedal is staggering, and it IS precise through the whole range.

I've seen the stock throttle maps - VCT for Best Fuel Economy mode is flat and linear throttle map. Optimal Power comes on a hair sooner, 60% throttle at 50% pedal. Soleris mixes it at about 75% throttle at 50%, perfect for non-track, around-town peppiness.

My tune looks to add power at 40% throttle; Soleris gets me there at about 25% depression of pedal. The two together...

I have a 10 speed auto and just by feel i can tell its a little quicker. My buddy with a tuned VW Golf R wants to mess around soon to see how bad i beat him now compared to before the tuning.

I had that hot hatch. Damn good car. Traded mine for Ioniq 5 three years ago, which SWMBO commandeered...

I dont follow by that rule (for the most part) lol but yeah his car is quick. It definitely surprised me!

I think charging 700+ bucks for a 20 dollar OBD flasher and a tune to be ridiculous.
