I have my car set to update any day after 1AM but have seen ZERO notification of any updates?
Funny .... I have it set to not auto-update and I keep getting updates and no notices.

I almost wonder why they don’t use the app as an update trigger. Get notified in the app, approve, disapprove, delay, deny, accept, concur, acknowledge, simple. Heck half the time the ‘app’ could sideload the patch but then again networks and vulnerabilities.

I would imagine there are different classifications for updates. There are ones they want pushed, whether the end-user wants them pushed or not, and optional ones.

I would care a lot less if the updates were seamless. But when my settings are geting messed with, I care more.

Setting changes with software updates are as old as computers themselves. Happens all the time with PC's and mobile devices. Why wouldn't it happen with automobiles. We need to face the facts. Our cars are run with computers and computers always require updates. It is what it is. Don't like it? That's OK but understand what not keeping your car updated could lead to.

I spent half of my careers as a software developer; I’m pretty aware of what’s doable in software.

Well then you are part of the problem. Maybe if you guys wrote it right the first time we wouldn't need so many damn updates.*

If it self destructs it qualifies for a recall. Malfunctioning software is not the responsibility of the user.
Ford issues a recall.
Ford pushes an OTA to address the issue.
You refuse the OTA and don't take it in.
Something fails and the car is damaged.

You think they are going to say, "Our bad, let us pay for your grenaded car."

ROTF!

If youre 19 years old and your career spans 1.5 years, working as a software developer for 9 months hardly qualifies you as an expert ...

Lol. Just messing with you. Details matter. I've been in IT for ~40 years, half of that coding. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard someone say what you've said, I'd have a lot of nickels.

Exactly. No different than operating system updates for computers and mobile devices. It is the owners responsibility to make sure their devices are up to date. I totally understand why some folks do not want Ford, or anyone, tracking their whereabouts but OTA updates are a totally different matter.

It's really no different than saying, "It's my car. If I don't want to change the oil, I don't have to," NOT changing your oil, but then expecting Ford to pay for damages due to lack of maintenance.
