Is this from the factory or did the dealer do this?

Just had my DH steering wheel replaced under warranty. Popped the hood when I got home as I was cleaning the car.

Is this electrical tape normal or did they break a tab or something and then tape?

Also, I assume you all have one of those plastic bolts where this hole is?

Go to time: 7:48 in video, looks like the electrical tape is supposed to be there to help keep cover closed.

Just left them a message. I removed the electrical tape and no clips were broken, but you have to put it on in a certain way to get it to clip in. Maybe they just tried once and then taped it.

I have to call them anyway as the replacement steering wheel is messed up. In their defense on this, they left the plastic on it. I removed that when I got home and saw this. Left side looks good, right side, not so much.

I’ll have them order a new wheel and plastic bolt and hopefully this will be the last time I have to take it in.

Are there any other Ford Dealers in your neighborhood?
It’s hard to believe they would want to install that Eye Sore.

Yes, I just preferred to take it to one where I knew someone. Didn’t quite work out. They have ordered a replacement, so should all work out.

What IS that with the duct tape on it? Is that the negative post for jump starting?

I believe it’s a relay.
Ok, so stupid question here, if someone wants to have mercy on me. If I'm jump starting this thing, the Positive terminal is right there under the red cover. Do I have to take the whole battery cover off to get to the Negative? Be gentle...I know I'm an idiot about these cars...never had one before. ;)

It's all good. You may get some varying answers on this. I was always tought to use the negative terminal on the battery. But technically you can ground to anything on the frame. Some cars even have a negative ground post attached to the frame. But I'm not aware of the S650 having that. I'd just pop off the cover. It only takes like 10 seconds. I think it's just 2 plastic screw fasteners.

Ok, thanks. Was just looking at one of those small, "jump start your car" devices and they all said to hook up positive and negatives. I just didn't see that on the car but what you said makes sense and I've heard about just attaching to a car frame in the past.

@nospleen , if i can make you feel a little better, i took mine for a blast yesterday and noticed two dimples in my right thumb rest on my wheel as well. not as pronounced as your replacement wheel, but they are there. like the soft touch cover kind of buckles right there. left is smooth. i'm gonna live with mine. meant to grab a flashlight and take a picture for you but it was about to rain when i parked it.
