You can play a shell game any way you’d like. The fact of the matter is Ford is losing about 5 billion a year on their EV side. Depending on model it equates to 30-50k for each one sold.
So what? Do you really think they weren’t aware of this could happen? Especially after Covid all of internal people were making adjustments just in case.

Besides Ford Pro made $9,000,000,000 in profit and Ford Blue made another $5,000,000,000. Yeah, Ford knows their customers.

This is not true?
Audi: https://media.audiusa.com/releases/612, multiple 8 cylinder cars here
Mercedes: AMG GT coupe
Lexus: LC500 and IC500 still are in the lineup
BMW: 6 cars with a v8
Sure there are not a lot, but there are still plenty of cars with a v8 engine around
You really need to dig into your numbers a little bit, especially about Audi. All V8’s are in specialty models costing ten of thousands more than a Mustang. You are truly comparing apples and oranges.

??? the post i was quoting simply said the v8 is not being offered anymore outside of the US. all i said was that isn't true as there are cars that are being offered with a v8. If we want to talk about price value, check out the dozens of other threads about the mustang price

I know, but then you should add the V8’s from Ferrari, Aston Martin and other super/hyper car brands. The reality is the V8’s in mainstream cars are dead. I think that’s what Greg was alluding too.

I repeat - the V8 is a fabulous modern engine. ICE engines are legacy!

Fine, electric motors are not new but EV's are.

V8 hasn't been used much outside the US ever, and certainly isn't now.
wrong again.

electric motors are legacy.
ICE engines are the more modern invention snd in wider use.

they aren’t going anywhere for a very long time.

until there is a way to properly recycle batteries or return them to minerals in the earth, electric motors are a problem. Until solar panels are included on every home and business (also need to be recyclable or returned as minerals), ev tech is legacy tech and causes more problems than it solves.

could ICE engines be deprecated? Not responsibly. So they are not legacy items. Not obsolete, and not past their usefulness. In msny ways, they are MORE useful than electric motors.

ICE is not legacy. It’s nearly 100 years more modern than electric motors.

is there a fad going on with electric motors? Sure. But we all know these come and go.

when it all washes out, we will see both options, each applying where it’s pros shine, with some overlap due to consumer choice snd enthusiasm.

as an enthusiast car, The Mustang, with the more modern v8 technology would be better off investing in maximizing its assets snd differentiators in an increasing environment of boring legacy sameness - and it will do do with modern tech.

is that even true given that the v8 is all over trucks in America. if you're making the argument for sports cars and sedans, then ya sure there are less. but saying they're all gone is objectively incorrect lol, hence my quote and reply

Trucks really? I’m pretty sure we are discussing performance “cars” here. But at the end of the day the only V8‘s that matter are the ones Ford puts into Mustangs. And the days of them doing that are dwindling.

You say "the only V8‘s that matter are the ones Ford puts into Mustangs." like Ford basically isn't the F150 company. Like it or not, the F150 is paying the bills, not the Mustang. Not only that the precious v8 that goes into the mustang is the same one that goes into the F150 too

No, I didn’t say that. I said, what matters on this forum are Mustangs.

Honestly, you’re right. All these threads play on semantics. Kind of what keeps them from being to boring. But we agree on the main thing that really counts. We love our Mustangs! :like: :fistbump:

So what's different about it? What makes it feel like it's worth 20k more?

They are very similar components, almost identical performance.
You‘re mistakenly attempting to apply logic and math to an emotional decision. I never said it was worth more nor even remotely attempted to justify doing the deal. It was new and shiny and at that moment in time I wanted it. My ‘23 had 1500 miles on it. It was a pretty day. I was a little bored and felt like messing with some car salesmen.

I spent a long career as a car dealer, starting at age 21. The one thing I learned in close to 45 years is that new car purchase decisions are not always driven by need and CPA guidance. Apparently I’m not immune.
