If you follow our social media, you know we've had a Dark Horse at our Valdosta location. Thanks to Velocity Motorsports and Jay with @velocity5.0 for providing the vehicle first and foremost. Of course, we had to put this on the dyno to see exactly what this Gen 4 coyote can put to the wheels. We've seen some S650 GTs already hit the dyno and put down some impressive numbers but with 14 more horsepower rated by Ford, how does the Dark Horse stand up?

Haven't seen this posted yet. Hard to tell how this compares with different dynos on different days than the GT numbers, but it made more power on the same dyno as a CAI tune S550.

408/357. Pull done in 5th gear, 10R80

I'm gonna guess and say it's not running premium or broken in. These numbers on a 15% DT loss are the same as a base GT.

Iā€™m thinking 440 might be high, Iā€™m expecting 430ish on the DH and 410ish on the GTā€™s

Not yet - we are still testing our springs & ensuring compatibility with the S650. We are currently doing our R&D.

A special thanks to Jay (@velocity_5.0 on TikTok and most socials) for bringing the car in for us to test with and driving through a hurricane to get our dyno numbers!

  1. We ran pulls yesterday but the car was down on power. Not only was the tank full of dealer-supplied 87 octane, but the car was possibly in some sort of break-in mode since the odometer read only roughly ~115 miles.
  2. We drained the tank, and put in 93, but saw a small bump in power ā€“ still not where it should have been.
  3. Jay took the car home last night and got over 300 miles on the odometer to push it past what we think was the break-in period.
Ran it on the rollers this morning and saw a significant jump in both torque in horsepower ā€“ 408.11 HP @ 7280 RPM / 357.20 LB/FT of TQ @ 5060 RPM, SAE Corrected

Car Specs:
2024 Mustang Dark Horse
10R80 10-Speed Auto, Non-Handling Pack
93 Octane
Steeda H-Pipe Resonator Delete Installed
~310 miles on odometer

Yeah I think people are forgetting 2 things here. A you need to break in the car before dyno. I know most cars cut or restrict power until after break in. Also since when can you get full power in a new 10 speed car in 5th gear. Almost never ever. So that's an issue too. This car obviously has a different engine tune and transmission tune than the s650. So you won't get accurate numbers until you break in the car and maybe until you fully unlock it to calibrate the transmission tune. You want to see which is better. Line up the s550 and s650 and race them.

Dyno numbers are pointless unless you just seeing how the car does after changing something on it. Dyno numbers just saying who carries a big stick. But if you can't use it in the real world then it's just worthless šŸ˜‚.

Im also curious if the soft limiter at 7250 falls off after break in. The guys that drove the car at Charlotte said the auto didnt have a limiter until 7500 but the manual had a soft limiter at 7250.

I got a good laugh at these results. Ford marketing got what they wanted.
