The plastic film between the 2 layers of glass that make up a windshield as mandated by FMVSS 205 absorb 100 percent of UVB rays (which cause sunburn), and around 98 percent of UVA rays. That built-in protection gives windshields a sun protection factor - or SPF - of 50 or more, the equivalent of some of the strongest sunscreens.

Factory tint is already very close to the 70% transmission level in most applications so adding anything to it unless it is perfectly clear puts you over the 70% level.
Factory windshields dont come tinted unless I'm mistaken. And even if they did, it would hardly be noticeable with 70% over it. You may be right about the UV part, but the point of ceramic tint is the heat reflection. If it werent for the frequency of Windshield replacements in Arizona, I would be it again. I had it done on a previous car and the heat reduction is amazing.

you would have to be buying a really low dollar car with no options not to get a tinted windshield and even side glass

The last car I bought that did not have tinted side glass was a 2008 Ford Escape I bought for Mom, but the windshield was tinted

They are typically tinted to let 70 to 80 percent of the light pass, because that is what the FMVSS for glazing requires.

That is why it is hard to apply a film to a windshield and still meet the FMVSS, and the FMVSS take precedent over any state law.

50+ years ago tinted windshields were an option and when you were replacing a windshield you almost always replaced a clear piece of glass with a tinted one for the customer

Had mine done summer of 2024. Never even looked until seeing yours. Mine is perfect. Tried to photograph it but to much reflecting and mine is inside. But I'm feeling they just didn't care installing yours or they just didn't know what they're doing. Looking at my dash, feeling like r&r windshield and dash to repair. Don't touch it. Work it out with people who know how to fix properly. Your people not theirs.

But I got limo tint all around and it's ceramic as well.
