Outside of take-off IMSA slicks, I don't know anyone who uses any Pirelli tire for track use. Not to say those tires you listed are bad, but I've never met or known anyone in the track scene to use that brand in general.

It's usually the popular 200tw tires, 3R's, or anything from Hoosier. And again, the guys running IMSA slicks but that's it.

Could that be the result of them being a new tire?

They were released only a few months ago, taking aim at the Hoosier market.

It looks like it does not have the "stretch" that the Trofeo RS does, instead having a much wider tread on the same size tire - 305/30ZR19 below

Could be because they are new but I don't know.

So looking at these, they are a DOT slick, 40tw. These will be a direct competitor to the Hoosier A7/R7, which are essentially the gold standard for competitive track day tires.

Even if these are faster/better/last longer than the Hoosiers, the biggest hurdle Pirelli will have to overcome to win that market will be the fact that Hoosier already sponsors so many track day organizations and events. For example, with NASA, if you win a w2w or TT event on Hoosiers, they give you two free Hoosiers as a prize. They are so deeply engrained in the amateur racing scene, it'll be very tough for anyone to win that segment.

$650 is pretty steep when Hoosier's are about $100 cheaper. Glad I hung up my helmet when I did, the Hoosier A7's have gone up about $150 per from when I was running them.
