Shadow Black

I was told (and I believe)that Shadow Black paint on my 2024 GT Premium is not metalic. I'm considering coating the paint with ceramic coating. In preparation, I washed the car and the clay bar'd the hood. I wiped the surface with a mixture of 30% IPA with 70% RODI. Under high lumen inspection I see what almost looks like minuscule metallic flakes...kinda. Will someone that knows this paint tell me what I am seeing?

shadow black is not a metallic paint. you may be seeing some sort of micro scratches that give the look of metal flake. if you have a vehicle that is Agate Black or Tuxedo Black, you will see just how non-metallic it is

These would be the most unique micro scratches I've ever seen. I'll see if a photo will show what I am seeing.

A general trolling of the topic revealed same question: metallic? pearl? solid?

The thread above has some posts from a painter, explaining Ford's variations to these colors, to include very small amounts of blue pearl. These are older posts, previous MYs and another model. I'd confirm any thoughts and interests by chatting up a local paint shop or dealer body shop for the latest component breakdowns.

Agreed, owned shadow black mustangs and never noticed it being metallic, it just a gloss black really

I have a shadow black GT. Only after polishing and in the right light you can see it sparkle. But as soon as it gets dirty or a little scratched it’s not really noticeable anymore.

They don't spray any vehicles at the factory solid black. The NNP is outsourced. Im Sure that is why it's difficult to get.

Shadow Black definitely has what looks like a little bit of purple flake in the paint, so blue pearl would be correct. It’s only visible up close, at certain angles, and when the car is swirl free and clean…which is almost never.

this all kinda reminds me how in the right lighting, Antimatter Blue can have a stunning green sparkle to it. you just have to find that perfect lighting situation
