Hey guys, I'm looking at selling my stock non-HP Dark Horse wheels and tires for something a little wider.
SVE wheels are around 24lbs.
I weighed my stock front 255/40r19 tires/wheel today and they came in at 63lbs.
If the tire weighs 28lbs max then that means the wheel is 35lbs. Is this correct ?
That would be a 8 or 9 lb difference per corner of rolling mass, which would be insane!

We're cutting farts with a knife at that point. Your initial calculation was about right. A pound here or there hardly makes any difference.

@ChitownStang --sounds about right to me. My GT came with Brembos and a square 20 x 9 OEM wheel set up. Hated the OEM wheel design; bought a wheel/tire package from LMR (19 x 10 F & 19 x 11 R--SVEs).

LMR listed the 11s at a hair under 25 lbs and the 10s a hair over 24 lbs. When I got an offer on the OEM wheels; I took one of them to the local UPS drop off---it weighed 38 lbs. Like you said; that's a LOT of unsprung weight difference!

Good luck with your new wheels/tires!

Chitown,

I recently went on a wheel/tire hunting spree myself, and posted a thread to which many people contributed a lot of great info. You might find some good stuff there. I too was very interested in drastically cutting down the weight from the stock wheels to a monoblock forged wheel and i was between the SVE wheels and Apex's VS-5RS. According to apexs site their 19x10 and 19x11 come in at 19.8 and 20.5lb. I decided i liked the look and the lighter weight of the VS5RS to justify an extra grand (or whatever the difference was) and on black friday apex offered a substantial discount as well as free shipping. So if ya decide ya like the vs5rs more for some reason, and youre patient, wait for black friday. i got those sizes for a smidge less than 3100 i believe. 20s are probably more im sure, i know you rock the 20s.

ive got no pictures to share unfortunately. i havent mounted them yet.

This is great info, much appreciated!
I’m trying to keep wheels and tires under $3k since I just spent that for my 20” SVE CFX wheels and Continental DWS winter setup.
I also need to sell my stock wheel / tires before I buy anything.
I really love the RTR Tech 7’s like I had on my Mach 1 but damn they have gone up in price drastically

Yeah it seems like this split Y design lends itself to the lightest weight wheel options possible. those tech 7s definitely have more aggressive angles and lines. The SVE wheels also had some hard angles if i recall. Lotta good options out there. im probably going to be disappointed when i dont feel much of a change to the ole butt dyno when i get these vs5rs mounted - but at least ill know that i tried lol

Sold my stock non-hp Dark Horse wheels and tires last night. 5000 miles on them…$1400
So now I have it narrowed down to the black SVE SP2 or the Steeda Satin Black wheels .
Here’s a good article on how wheel weight affects performance
