NITTO 555 R2 TIRE PSI

Hi all, my NITTO street legal slicks finally came IN, just got back from having them mounted. I called. Nitto, to see what they suggested for air pressure driving on the street and air pressure racing at the quarter mile. Could not believe how clueless their Customer Service is. The first guy told me just look in the Owner’s manual of your car gave up on him called back got a girl who told me just run them at 35 for both the street and the strip.
Anyways, if someone on this site has experience with the Nitto street slicks, please let me know your suggestion for air psi thanks

Play around from 15-30psi and see what works. Change 5psi at a time. Going to depend on your suspension and other things

I know nothing about strip settings. But for fast road driving/riding I check pressure rise from cold when the tyres have had about a 1/2 hour vigorous running, I look for around 5 psi rise.

I run them OP, on the road I do 28-29psi, any lower and they can be too squirmy

Track is gonna depend on the prep, on “radial prep days” at my local I can get them all the way up to 22 psi

on normal rubber slick prep or no prep even I find myself down around 17

you actually want as much pressure as you can while still hooking, ideally drag radials need drag radial specific prep… it will be scraped flat like flypaper and sprayed out to the 330’ if not the whole 1/8

I have a set of bias ply that I would normally race with as they perform better on a variety of surfaces

Pro tip: hot track temps, colder tire, spin them clean and go
Cool track temps, hot sticky tire, big smoky burnout
the Track compound and the tire compound need to work together, used to target 200 degrees total combined, when you see guys using temp guns on the track and the tire

I run those tires 22 psi cold ALL the time I also get about double the miles out of them that way and they work the best for me at that pressure. If you run more psi then that then the middle will wear out first and you'll need tires in 5k miles or less. I've had quite a few sets of those over the years.
