Which would you do first in this situation? LTH’s with no cats or half shafts?

I have a Roush phase 2 supercharger, UPR catch cans and X pipe. I love the way the car sounds and runs. My next modification allocation is $3,000 and is meant to protect from future possible damage. I know that melting cats and breaking the factory half shafts is a possibility when running an 810 hp setup. I’m weighing which one to do first and LTH with no cats is what I’m currently leaning towards.

I’m heavy on the peddle at times but not usually from a dig. I don’t plan on running any type of drag radial but the car may see one or two drag strip trips next year but nothing competitive just more so to see where the car is. The car is currently running 7.4 seconds 60-130 mph according to my draggy. I haven’t done any data from a dig and actually can’t get the car to hook up to save my life until I hit 60 and even then it’s still spinning and cutting power if the traction control is on.

The next question becomes do I custom tune the vehicle if I do the headers or do I keep the factory Roush file active? Do I just have the tuner correct the A/F tables or re-write the entire file? Who is a reputable tuner? Where do you find headers with no cats? Of course just track use at that point.

You shouldn't have to change the AF ratio in the tune.

The vendors that are forum sponsors can hook you up on the headers just give them a call.

I'd do the halfshafts first so you can run drag radials. Completely changes the car.

I did headers and GT350 half shafts and have cut 1.4 60 foots with no issues… they were only like $400 … the driver side which usually snaps has almost 8lbs more material and does not have the taper on the shaft (where GT tend to snap)

go both.

I had no idea the GT350 half shafts would hold up to stage 2 Whipple and slicks.

So if you go with headers, you can install and go. This is for catless or catted ones as the front widebands can adjust. Now with catless, you do run the risk of a CEL. You can go with 02 mini cats to help mitigate the chances but no promises. If you go with cats, you will need the ones that offer GESI, EcoF, or GREEN cats as they are designed around boost.

For the half shafts, if you plan on hard launches or getting it on a roll with a fast shift, you will want to replace them for sure.

With tuning, it will wake the car up ten fold over the ROUSH tune. The file you have now is very safe but is holding back a lot. Tuning will make the car feel new.

With your budget, you could tech get both. This is what I would do:

That’s awesome information. I appreciate the detailed feedback. Those are great prices.

Will that header bolt right up to my X pipe without modification?

I put DSS 2000hp axle shafts In my Whippled Dark Horse HP 6 spd. Now I don't even think about them anymore. I can shift at 7200 all day long and not even give them a thought.
