Not true

BMW stated at the beginning of the year that the M2 rose by 64% in 2024 compared to the previous year

But another member said because they still sell less M2's than Mustang's, it doesn't count.
I said bmw would love for M2s to have Mustang's sales numbers.

Which is true.

If you sell 1 car last year and 2 cars this year, you have 100 percent growth, even though both years aren't good sales. When a person or company uses percentages, they're trying to not show raw data.

The mustang is the number one selling sports car and it's not particularly close.

Pleeeeese somebody shut this thread.

It is literally copy and paste from the other threads now!
But the textbook scavenger hunt game is much more fun. Dunno if ya’ll did it over there but we here used play a little game with our shared textbooks. Sometimes another would leave a little note in the textbook, goto page 55 and then on page 55 it would have a message that said goto 420 and so on and so forth, every once in awhile something new would get discovered.

Mustang is still the best selling sports car in the U.S. All Sports car sales have slightly declined over the past couple of years.

Congratulations?

They don't even make the 3 out of the 5 best selling sports cars from the year before (Camaro, Charger, Challenger), and the Corvette was a very, very close second)

One of the biggest problems we're seeing, across all industries, is the emphasis in boardrooms for higher short-term shareholder profits over long term customer satisfaction and product value.

Agree with others that this topic is already well covered with many opinions -- my thoughts at this LINK. I do hope the Mustang stays around as long as possible -- by far the most fun car I have ever owned!

What are the reasons that sales of Mustangs are so low? My take is that Mustang fans are now in their seventies and probably not in the market for a 2 door coupe. The high cost is also preventing a new, younger generation of Mustang buyers. Ford needs to do something that will create the enthusiasm that the original Mustangs created. Something that would attract both older buyers (maybe a 4 door? a Hybrid?) and younger buyers (more value at lower cost?). The Mach-e is outselling the gas Mustang, so what can Ford do?
Meh. Lots of assumptions in this post. Id say inflation and interest rates are the primary culprit. New car prices are up across the board for everything.

Multiple reasons for me.
First reason is price, and it’s broad across the car industry. It’s affecting the Mustang more so imo because the Mustang for a long time was seen as the entry level performance sports car with the s550 gen. Wages haven’t kept up with the inflation we have been seeing with car prices, so you see people not buying it when you see it in the price range of other sports cars that are more desirable or used cars that are more desirable. The Mustang is also the last one standing in the v8 muscle/pony sports car segment. Law of supply/demand dictates that they can set the price as they see fit. And Ford execs have stated this in multiple interviews.

Second reason is the jump from the previous generation is not enough to command the price tag that it has. Why get an s650 when you can get an s550 for significantly cheaper with nearly the same performance and even the same if not exceeding if you do a couple bolt on mods?

That leads into the third point, no tuning. The previous generation was massive in terms of tuning capabilities and aftermarket support. You could easily make 600 whp with a couple bolt ons. The only route with this gen is supercharger companies, and that is quickly becoming just throw on whipple since they were first to market and have more hp than other supercharger companies. Having aftermarket support is important to keep the cars themselves desirable and also provides opportunities for you to make your own car unique.

four, car companies are incentivized to phase out all sports cars and move to SUVs due to CAFE standards. This one kind of doesn’t hold as much weight as the first three for me, but does play a role in providing choice to the consumer in terms of sports car availability. If you’re presented with a sports car for 50k or an SUV that can do everything for 50k and is decently fast as well, 90+% of ppl will choose the latter.

Five, cost of ownership for the mustang, but sports cars in general, is much higher compared to economy cars. Touched on this before, but in a world where your wage has increased significantly less than the price of everything else, 90+% of people are gonna stick with their hybrids or EVs just to save on ownership cost.

combo of these five put together a real case for me as to why the sales for this generation are so low. I don’t think it’s that this generation doesn’t want sports cars anymore, I think they just want one they can afford and is worth it. And it’s also up to OEMs to present a sports car that is affordable and is good.

edit: oh and also tariff uncertainty is gonna play a role in the future and make them even more expensive, so I don’t expect the sales figures to go up anytime soon

On this forum owners over 40% paid cash-no financing, I do not believe "Cost is a major factor" argument.

That being said, the economy overall has sucked. This could be the issue. Choosing more intelligently where money should go is at the forefront of everybody's mind.
How many people would have paid cash but didn't buy the car and went with another car instead because of the high cost?

You only have some numbers in your poll of people on this forum who bought it cash and who financed it. Your research results are really saying almost to nothing and can only be used as a fun fact about the forum members.

I bought it cash because I have enough cash and it's a car I really want.

I have friends and collegues who wanted to buy the car, but didn't after seeing what the price was of the new model. They went with other brands instead.

Those people, those numbers, are not taken into consideration and are a HUGE factor that can prove that the price of the new model has many people changed their mind about buying the Mustang.

It's nice to have a poll and see who paid what and who paid how, but please, you can't use that as an argument to prove that the high Mustang price is not the factor.

These cars are smoking deals priced almost 20% BELOW ne w vehicle transactions average.

People are gonna look back in a few years and realize they could’ve had one for only 40 grand…

Consumer can feel that way (even though most consumers will choose the cheaper option), but if I was a Ford executive, I'd be frightened to think whether moving all production to America will result in 1. increased car prices, 2. creating an american factory that becomes non-competitive the second tariffs are dropped, 3. Losing global footprint/market share to other car manufacturers that can sell . It's a global world and the last time we tried isolationism it went backwards dramatically. It's just how the economy works.
