Note: Through testing the Rev limiter does not activate at 6000 all the time. Perhaps one out of four or five. Other than that, normal.

Ive heard of this happening on manual cars.
I have had the engine "cut power", maybe even at 6000 rpm, but its only when i'm hot dogging on a back country road power slide. definitely when I forgot to turn off TC. but not for sure if the light flashes. it is definitely an abrupt power cut like the car doesn't trust me anymore. which is weird because it always slid fine before in sport mode with TC on. I'm hoping this isn't a new thing. or maybe if I don't drive it as frequent the car "forgets" me

hey I just thought of something. out of curiosity go into your settings unless you know, what is your launch control RPM set at? just wondering if it's 6000 which is probably nuts anyway

I'm refreshing myself on the following threads.

There's an absolute hard limit that all engines have. This limit cuts fuel to the engine.

Several mention in these threads the Manual Transmission cars have a hard limit 2-300 RPM lower than the Automatics. I suspect this is because of shifting, clutch release, human moving the clutch pedal, sudden, unloaded engine etc.

Engines also have a soft limit. This limit is based on oil and Cylinder Head Temperatures, so it's more variable. Timing, maybe fuel, are manipulated by the Powertrain Control Module to slow the pace of the engine's acceleration. It's not abrupt like a hard limit.

So differences of a few hundred RPM between transmission, yes. Engine cutting out at 6,000 RPM? I suppose that's possible, if they were seeing some high temperatures. If the temperatures were more "normal", around 190 F / 87 C, the engine should go right to 7,500, or thereabouts.

The OP mentions temps are normal when these events occur.

Could be a bug in the software of the PCM, something Ford hasn't become aware of. But I'd think we'd be reading of it more often? These engines use a Throttle Position Sensor. I wonder if one of those acting up could make these events occur.

For cars which have been tuned, sometimes, the tuner updated the limit tables by mistake; this is also discussed in some of these threads. Tuners sometimes remove protection of the soft limits. Or they confuse the soft and hard limit tables.

Appreciate your input, it definitely feels as if it redlines at 6k rpm, the engine cuts off and like another poster said, it almost feels dangerous, now I'm afraid to do pulls knowing it can cut off like that. I'm going to test it in other drive modes. I have also looked at the launch control and track apps settings and did not see anything abnormal.
