Just got a recall 2024 Mustang - 26C40 ENGINE HARNESS GROUND EYELET REPLACEMENT

I see GM is a bit down the list but in there defense they do have over 3 million cars that will spontaneously combust and the recall says don't park indoors.

here's some further details on the recall. affects 147,977 vehicles

In some of the affected vehicles, added heat-shrink caused an interference fit between the ground eyelets and sheet metal leading to distortion of the eyelets. Distorted engine wire harness grounds may break under normal vehicle vibration. A loss of ground G1D145 results in loss of motive power. A loss of ground G1D141 results in an inoperable right front headlamp, horn, windshield washer fluid pump, and air conditioning. A loss of ground G1D120 results in an inoperable left front headlamp. A loss of ground G1D143 causes an inoperable engine cooling fan, which may be accompanied by an illuminated check engine light and an audible chime.

i tried to find where these grounds are on the wiring diagrams, but it seems Ford has a different naming scheme for what's listed in the recall details vs what is numbered in the wiring diagrams

Hi ROKET , I looked at the schematics ground distribution for the 2024 model year and there are I counted 26 ground points to the vehicle metal frame that I could see. They have labels "G100-G115, G200-G204, G300,301 and G401-406. I have attached PDF from the ground distribution that show these. The 73 pages of the vehicle component location views only 26 pages cover these. PDF page 2 show G111 point that covers the items under the "G1D141" The G104 in my PDF would cover "G1D120" and G107 would cover the "G1D143". I have attached a page cut from the location view that shows G111 and G107 locations. I hope this helps a little.

Thanks for throwing that diagram out there, sounds like an architecture miss or third party supplier quality issue looking at where that lies at. Would be interested in hearing a root cause analysis on that one....can guarantee hell will become a winter wonderland before that happens though.

I would guess that the most important ground eyelet points are the first 15 labeled G100 to G115. They can be found on just 17 location pages. BTW- I took screen shots of the pages, but I am not sure if it is legal to share these on this forum in the PDF format. This could be a copyright violation and some Ford lawyer could get me. I do not wish to go to jail :-(

I would guess if the information is readily available on the internet than it could be posted here? Maybe a moderator can chime in on that. Now I'm curious about this.

I would say it's enraging, but it's beyond that. Anyone seen the movies Money Pit or Total Recall? I just keep repeating 2 WEEKS! That's IF I do not get involved in an electrical grounding crash!

Wow, this effects much more than I thought. I wonder now if that weird pop-up message that showed up a few times when driving around a turn that a USB device connection has been lost or something like that is from this? Also I wonder is the power loss continuous? Like the car doesn't move? Or affected systems just shut down for a short time? I don't understand how exactly that would work? Would the loss be a temporary situation? Also have there been any Mustangs that have had this happen? What a shitshow.

Helps keep a tab on how many V8 S650's have been built / sold. Would guess the 150k is all US models up until recently with ROTW not included in that recall notice but will no doubt happen soon enough.
I wonder how many days the stop sale for the wiper issue was lifted for before this issue happened and stopped them again.
Not enough time for my dealer to sell any of the 3 mustangs they have on the lot.

Entered my VIN and I see my Mustang is affected.

When I got audio work done they did the Big-3 with 0 gauge cabling and I know those are grounded well.

"The recall involves four engine compartment grounds anchored to the inner sheet metal panels. Pop your hood and inspect these areas:

Driver’s Side Inner Fender (Near the Battery): Check the inner sheet metal wall right next to the battery enclosure. You will see factory ground studs with black wires bolted down here.
Passenger’s Side Inner Fender: Look at the sheet metal wall opposite the battery, near the hood prop structural area. Look for similar small black wires bolted to the metal.
