It feels like it snagging on something trying to go from 1st to 2nd and if I try to downshift from 3rd to 2nd it just locks out. On the off chance it does go into 2nd it's a clanky, rickety, binding type feeling. This wasn't an issue with the stock shifter whatsoever. I went to this to make it easier to hit 3rd but now I can't even use 2nd. Any ideas? I tried adjusting the reverse lockout stop away from the shifting lever slightly to make sure there was some clearance but that didn't do anything. Is the way it is bolted to the body on the underside an issue possibly? I just torqued it down where it guided itself upon jacking the transmission back up. It looks like it could be shifted to the driver side some if it needs to be centered better if you look at the bolt holes I circled. That is my only idea on how to fix this.

I suggest you reach out to Steeda.

Thanks TJ! I was eventually able to get the unit to work well by pushing the lockout gate into the collar with a slight amount of pressure instead of just touching it. I'm banging 2nd gear at 7,200 RPM and downshifting into 2nd at 45 to 50 mph no problem again. I think the important thing for people to know about this kit is that a small adjustment on the lockout gate can make a big difference in drivability. Even if that adjustment is only about 1/16" to 1/32". Just because it shifts well parked doesn't mean it is going to shift well at speed but some very fine adjustments can get you where you want to be. I noticed two things not in the install manual that may be worth adding. I had to cut about 1/8" off of the rubber cord to allow the shift knob to catch any threads. This wasn't mentioned in the directions. It may also be worth instructing people to add some of the supplied grease between the lockout gate and the collar as those areas always rub together and I noticed Ford had did the same so I applied some there as well on the Steeda unit even though the directions didn't mention it.

It happens. Sometimes companies learn what to add (or remove) from installation instructions or videos from the very people who buy and install their products.

I just installed the Billetworkz shift knob and adapter in my DH. After running into a couple of things, I reached out to the manufacturer and provided feedback. They were very welcoming of it and are actually going to be modifying their installation instructions based on some of the suggestions I provided.

Little late to this thread and I’m not familiar with the steeda shifter but I just installed a Barton hybrid 3 shifter with the reverse pull up lockout collar on my 24 Mustang GT. Most of the time, it shifts fine but sometimes it will lock me out of second on the 1-2 shift or the 3-2 shift in lower rpms. I haven’t shifted in higher rpms with the Barton yet because I’m not comfortable with it due to the fact it does it sometimes in lower rpms. It’s like hitting a wall and it won’t go into second at all. Not sure if there’s and issue with the Barton shifter itself, something with the trans like a synchro or something, or if I just need to adjust the shifter.
