Track mode (For the 6-speed) is completely different feel in the throttle compared to Sport Mode. Track mode seems like you have to work the gas pedal more comparted to Sport.

Normal Mode from the drive selection is no slouch - the car is responsive and let's you know there's more available if you want it. I find this mode especially impressive from a cruising speed to a passing speed (60 to 80 is almost before you know it).

Sport mode is what I like to call fun mode. I don't notice any tremendous drop is gas mileage, either, which I do marvel at because the car goes from being responsive to being reactive - the trans holds higher RPMs longer, which allows for aggressive acceleration from nearly any starting speed. The traction control still keeps the rear tires in the rear, and as others have suggested, this is a great overall sports car mode, pushing out a great note from the exhaust, and an all-around toy that can get you in trouble if you're not paying any attention to, nor respecting the car.

Track Mode is what you'll want if you find yourself street racing. You're transitioning out of aggression and into a racing reactions. If you're not a racer, used to the reactions of vehicle suspension tuning and weight balance shifts, then you'll want to go to a track and practice. I've met some of the nicest people at the track who are willing to give advice, mentorship, or even help you modify settings to get the best out of your vehicle. This is what I really enjoy about the Mustang community - they're so happy to have a fellow mustang owner in the sport, they just become family.

Drag Mode is what you'll graduate to after you've learned the balance and character of your car. You have line lock options to warm up your tires, you have all of the horsepower primed and ready to launch you to something near 10 seconds. If you've opted for the Whipple add on, then you can see some 8s and 9s and make the rest of us jealous. As a rule, never use this mode on a street unless you've attained the level of confidence that you would never have needed to ask this question.

Congrats on the purchase! I'm 53 and my 2024 GT Premium is my first mustang, too. I've found that it turns a lot of heads, get's a lot of smiles, and most importantly - makes me feel like I've still got enough orneriness in myself to enjoy the beast of a machine.

Fair enough but safe to say that you’re more responsible at 54 vs 24 so you have to take that into account as well but make no mistake, this thing can SCOOT!! I’m 56 and show my GT much respect. I know now how hard to push and how long to push. I too, choose Sport Mode with Track exhaust and don’t care much for Drag/Track Modes. Those seem to be more stretched out and much more accelerator pushing but exhilarating nonetheless. You’ll find your ideal mode and when you do, make it a Custom Mode and you’ll always be Smiling with each pedal push!!
Excellent response!!! I apprecriate it!

Best Answer...

Do not drive like a loony on the street
I don't plan too...but I have plenty of open road out here in Arizona to have have some fun. I'm 54 and have driven some beasts...I am not ready to get on it hard just yet. Just looking for some advice. I appreciate it.

Fair enough, also 54, also driven some decently wicked cars.

Push it some but never all the way. There are tracks all over the country to do that.

EDIT: no need to see if you can break a 0-60 or 1/4 mile record on the street. "You know what the car can do" from Ford and the magazines. Mustangs are notorious for nasty stupid crashes - do not be +1

Uakawease,
Great advice, from Farmer Fran and others. I've had my Stang since July and I do occasionally get on it but you must respect it. One thing that was barely discussed, is road debris. I'm not talking about road kill and tire pieces but something much smaller and almost imperceptible. Which, may be a problem, in AZ. Blown dirt and sand. I have found that at intersections and especially if you are turning at the intersection, be aware of the sand and tiny pieces of gravel. They can cause you to easily spin out and lose traction. It has happened to me twice and when you are not expecting it, it can really make you pay attention. The first time I was going straight and the tires basically chirped a bit. The second time I was making a right turn, going to my Ford dealer and the rear end started to come around on me, which wasn't bad, but when the rear tires stopped spinning and gripped again, it bordered on violence. I actually thought someone coming from the left, had hit me. Just be careful and as everyone says it will put a smile on your face, as well as others around you. Glenn p.s. I'll be 78 in June. You're just a youngster! 🤟

I appreciate your input. I've been driving a Jeep Wrangler for the past 8 years. Mostly off roading. I am just trying to get use to the different modes that the car offers. Normal, Sport, Track (haven't hit the drag mode yet), plus the option of "manual" in my automatic. I am old school when it comes to Modes...I always had ONE option...Drive mode. BTW...happy birthday in June!

Find an open parking lot; go to track mode and line lock, then have some fun. A soapy bleach solution should allow for some cool pictures;). Enjoy!

I am old school from the Mopar Nationals as a teen...I know all about the bleach lol! It's impressive. I wish I had a smart phone back in 1986 when my friend had a 1971 Dodge Charger that we poured some bleach solution in the parking lot of the gas station I worked at and it took 20 minutes for the cloud to disipate. AWESOME!

I'm in Las Vegas Nevada and the temps get into the 30s on occasion. I've had several scary experiences when the temperature was in the high 40s to mid-50s. I went to pass on the expressway and floored it at about 50-55, the rear end swung around and the car went into a violent fishtail for three oscillations.
Ack. And here I am trying to decide whether to run those tires year-round in Georgia... and the average temps are a bit cooler here and we get more rainy days than you do in Vegas (my old stomping grounds!). I won't say I've never floored at high speeds (gotta pass on two lane roads somehow), but if I do decide to keep the Pirellis on, I'll definitely be ultra careful in low temps. Glad you lived over that one!

I figured out pretty quick that I couldn't jump on it mid turn like I could in my 2007 GT. Did that a couple of times right after I got the 2024 and the back end got light, and it wasn't even on wet roads or anything. That's been my only "wake up call" in 4k miles, so I must be more sedate than some folks. 🤷‍♀️

Opinion: You don't have to street race someone, just to prove a point. Nor should you, any more than thrashing your ride when the cops aren't around. Justifying these acts otherwise, opens one up to ridicule and labeling, and reflects on everyone else driving the same model of vehicle. I resent that, and so do most others on this forum.
