So I brought my car in today for it's second oil change. This time I brought it to a closer dealer than the one I bought the car from. I scheduled it online. When I scheduled my first oil change I remember having the option to select full synthetic or synthetic blend. I selected full synthetic and on the repair ticket the oil used was Motorcraft XO 5W30DFS full synthetic. Good to go!
Now this time when I scheduled it with this closer dealership I didn't get the option of picking full or blended. I only could pick "oil change". And they put in Motorcraft XO 5W30 BSP... synthetic blend. D'OH!!!!!!!!
Before calling the dealership and complaining I decided to look up in the owner's manual the page where it specifies the oil so I could tell them they screwed up. I was convinced I had read where it said full synthetic was specified. So here is the page:
So what is confusing is if you do a search the specification WSS-M2C961-Al you get a Motorcraft webpage that shows either XO-5W30-Q1FS for a quart of FULL SYNTHETIC or XO-5W30-DFS which is the 55 gallon drum.

But the owner's manual lists XO-5W30-Q1SP as an alternate part number for a quart of SYNTHETIC BLEND.

Both meet the specification because: "This oil also meets WSS-M2C961-A1 and reduces oil derived low speed pre-ignition."
So I guess this is more of a cautionary tale for my fellow 2.3 owners. When you get your oil changed, if you want full synthetic make sure you ask for it specifically, unlike me. I'll be going back to full synthetic on the next oil change for sure as that is what I had wanted to use for the life of the car.
