I read an article that Ford had filed a Patent on this. It's not in production now but they have a patent for if/when they decide to do this.

The moment they do will be the last time I see a blue oval in my driveway. There are plenty of brands out there that won't do stuff like this unless the government regulates it and at that time I'll either be dead or will have to get back to two feet and a heartbeat as my transpo.

Possibly. Patents are also something that generate money. For instance, let’s say their technology is viable and they never put it in a single Ford car. If another manufacturer does put it in one of their cars, then they have to pay licensing fees to use the technology. Passive income for Ford.
