First Run w/ Whipple on 10R80 Dark Horse

Don't know what DA was that day but do remember it being almost 90 degrees. Tires are Micky Thompson Street R Radials and zero other mods or weight reduction.

nice… the heat definitely would have slowed you down some… I think you’ll be surprised when you run it in cooler temps… forced induction loves cold weather and hates heat lol

What size pulley? Murphy's law garage went 132 on 93 on a stage 1 didn't they? Not sure what other mods they had.

Just posting a thread for fun conversation. Took the 10R80 Dark Horse to the strip to get a baseline about two months ago, completely stock including rims and tires (12.7 first time, 12.3 second time). Got the Whipple and drag pack put on and took it back just to get a feel for her, everything else stock all the way from exhaust manifolds to the exhaust tips (no headers, etc.) , 93 Octane only both times. This time around ran a 10.7 and three 10.8's at 131 and 132 MPH consistently. Needless to say, have had a blast, first time in my life at a drag strip. I do believe there's at least .2 seconds left in her from driver (Me) inexperience.....lol. Going back next week just to see if I can squeeze that .2 out with no changes to the car, thinking 10.5 is possible.

It has been a blast playing with this car and I see an expensive future ahead as me and her make our way down to the high 9's. Hope everyone else is enjoying their Dark Horse as much as I have and here's to more in the future!! It's a fun club to be in......

Can I ask what your Drag pak is? I hear this referenced all the time but nobody ever says rim brand size and tires. Could you provide this info and how you like them. As I'm looking for some. Thank you.

My stage 2 came with a 3.75 pulley. I’ve heard that one of my future changes will probably eventually be changing the pulley to a smaller size but at some point that may also require an upgraded fuel system to feed it enough go go juice. Some people say going smaller or too small can start starving the engine at high RPM’s. Again, I’m not that technical with all this yet but will keep trying things over time to get that time down and speed up….wish me luck!!

Absolutely, my fronts are Weld Ventura 20x5 rims with Bridgestone Ecopia 175/55 R20 tires. My rears are Weld Ventura Beadlocks 18x10 with Mickey Thompson ET Street R Drag Radial P305/45 R18. I’m no expert but don’t think you can go smaller than 18 on the rears on a Dark Horse. From my reading, you can go down to 17’s on the rear if you have a GT but not the Dark Horse because of caliper size. I know on mine with the 18’s there is barely enough room to get a finger between the caliper and the rim inner flange but maybe others have more experience with this and I could be incorrect on the GT comment…..just what I read on some forums.

Awesome post! makes me want to save harder for the whipple! ive been having to live vicariously thru posts like this while i keep stacking nickels until I get enough to do the whipple setup!

I’m no expert but don’t think you can go smaller than 18 on the rears on a Dark Horse. From my reading, you can go down to 17’s on the rear if you have a GT but not the Dark Horse because of caliper size. I know on mine with the 18’s there is barely enough room to get a finger between the caliper and the rim inner flange but maybe others have more experience with this and I could be incorrect on the GT comment…..just what I read on some forums.

Yeah if this is your first time in the track it takes time to learn. Did you drop the pressure in the back to see if that would help you hook more? You also probably had a lot of wheel hop too.

Great question, thought about that 'after' I left the track. I set the rear pressure to 20# just cause I had read somewhere to start there. I was thinking I would try 17/18 on this next go round.
