Did my first oil change, ~8800 miles. Noticed oil hanging on the bottom of the oil filter housing lip and some evidence it dripped onto a line nearby, maybe a small splotch on the felt undertray. Never any dash lights or error codes so far, no drips on the garage floor. I'd estimate total oil lost is less than a shot glass.

Weird thing is exactly 6 months ago with only 300 miles I filmed the underbody, no signs of oil drip then. I've never fiddled with the oil filter or even taken off the undertray until now.

The way the oil tracked down the oil filter, looks like maybe it just wasn't tight enough. Is that a possibility? Like after the break-in period when I started driving more enthusiastically, it caused a slight leak because the filter wasn't tight enough? Oil filter housing surface seems smooth, no issues I could see.

I would say yes it is possible it wasn't tight enough, but I wouldn't trust that and make sure it doesn't leak after oild change or something. Good luck 👍

Clearly an older thread with not many responses...but for the sake of clarity...did you have the original oil and filter (aka from factory) on until 8,800 miles?!

Re-checked now 2 months/2600 miles since oil change, zero signs of leak or drip.

So the original OEM oil filter must have been slightly loose from the factory. Can't believe that can even happen, I thought they'd be perfectly robo-torqued.
