My post (since you didn't seem to want to scroll back):

A 1991 base GT 5.0 hatchback was ~$13K when I bought it new.
That would be ~$30K in 2024 dollars.
A 2024 Mustang GT Fastback starts at $41,960.
That's right about a 40% increase.

US average annual individual income in 1991 was $22,158.
That's $49,638 in 2023 dollars (most recent available data).
In 2023, it was $69,029.61.
That's right about a 40% increase.

Math is your friend.
According to U.S. Bureau of Labor the average individual income as of Q4 of 2023 was actually 59,384. That is a drop of 10k. So 2024 average income is much lower than 2023.

In 1993 a base GT was 15,747 dollars. Adjusted for inflation today that would be 33,818 dollars for a base GT. A base GT is 43,090 dollars. So Mustangs have increased in price 25% more than inflation. Mustang was once a performance bargain. It is not so much a bargain anymore.
A base GT in 1993 isn't even comparable to the car you are getting today. I don't think anyone disagrees a GT is more costly today than before.... but the EcoBoost would be in the same ballpark (inflation corrected) as a 93 GT, and its a better car in every way. Safety, suspension, quality/lifespan.....everyway. Those 93 GTs were toss aways after 100,000 miles (I owned one).

Today's world your options have just changed. You can buy an affordable fun car. You just have more options on the top and an no options for a dirt cheap POS like you could pull off in 93.

I never use “inflation adjusted dollars” always “market adjusted dollars” as that is the true denominator for USA.

so in 1993 that 15.5K = 34 shares of the S&P 500.. in 2024 that same 34 shares is $177,000.

the cost of a new mustang has dropped by 75% over the last 30 years.

That's close but new Coyote crate engines are more like 10-11k. Still a whole lot less that that BMW shit.
These BMW engines are pretty stout nowadays and can take 700 hp all day on stock components...Toyota trusts BMW that much that they let BMW even design and build their Supra...LOL So I would not worry too much in that regard !

A number of posts back, I provided a comparison between wages in 1991 and today as well as the price of a Mustang in 1991 and today. Wages have kept up with the cost of a Mustang during that time period almost to a tee. Today's base Mustang GT is no more than the 1991 Mustang GT, corrected for inflation on both ends.

Negative. Other than you, nobody has ever said it is "basically the same old one with some make-up". And the reference to the female engineer has nothing to do with this, as she was only in charge of the roll-out, not the design. Did you not read that correctly?

Broken record here. You're not getting 2x the car for the same (or less) price, bro. That's not the way anything works.
I dont care what the media says about adjusted for inflation how "cheap" are nowadays...Its not true as you can see most americans cant even afford to finance a new car with average new car price of around $44000 and up to 96 month loans...a good 30 years ago which feels like yesterday you saw young people on a new Fox Body 5.0 or IROC Camaro putting filling up the tank for 15 bucks and paying 400 bucks insurance a year...Today the Camaro is gone and people who buy new Mustangs are 55 , Vettes 65 plus...LOL Younger people cant afford the stuff anymore generations before could because wages have not kept up with cost ! Wages have not doubled but cost has quadrupled it seems...And now credit rates are up and people are maxed out on in debt...Who really can afford a pickup that goes between 80 and 125K if you need that suoercharger to get 8mpg because gas is so cheap...LOL

Just because you don't care what the facts are doesn't change the facts. Math is math.

Wages have not doubled but cost has quadrupled it seems.
With all due respect, last year I made 843% as much as I made in 1991 (when I bought a new 1991 Mustang GT). I can only speak for my education and career path choices, not everyone else's. And for the record, I paid for 100% of my education and nobody gave me anything. In fact, I lost my mom at 15, had to move to my dad's, and was kicked out by my evil step-monster a year later at 16.

And now credit rates are up and people are maxed out on in debt
ROTF! If you think rates are bad right now, you should been around in the 1980s when the 30-year fixed conventional mortgage rate was nearly 20%! Last week, it was 6.79%.

Who really can afford a pickup that goes between 80 and 125K
I know lots of folks driving those trucks, myself included. Take a look around on the roads ... they are everywhere.

To put it all into perspective a nice Fox Body 5.0 GT hatchback or LX trunk was full optioned around $18K if I remembered right...Todays DH is roughly 4 times as much as is gas and insurance. The Fox was light and felt torquey...The DH does not.IN the end the old one was even more fun to drive.LIke I said before Ford went cheap and instead of all new went S550 2.0...So weight and chassis are the same but at least they should have upped the displacement and brought a new block to bring low to mid rpm Torque that is fun...As for touchscreens I dont see them as a plus but more like a fad brought on by Tesla...

Roadpilot if you made 9 times as much as you made 30 years ago I say good for you ! But I talk about regular people who work in transportation,industry,nurses,farmingetc...Real Jobs we need and depend on...Here wages have been stagnant at best no matter what the media says and the demise of the affordable sporty car shows it while high end shit is through the roof...I mean look if you even want to buy a GT3 you pay more in mark-up than the cost of a DH ! Chickenchange for these people...Or a car looking like a Mustang for $300K...But soon all the burger flippers at Mickey D's will be able to afford a DH with legislation in Commifornia asking for $50 minimum wage...LOL
Crazy times for sure...

What year? The 1991 we have been discussion? Adjusted for inflation, $18,000 in 1991 is a little over $41,000 today.

Base MSRP on a 2024 Mustang GT is $41,960.

I've been in IT supporting automotive manufacturing nearly my entire career.

Oh, and I take offense at you assuming my jobs have not been "real jobs we need and depend on" ... LOL

Oh you mean when the yearly raise comes down to: do you want me to pick up the increase in health insurance or do you want it in your paycheck?
