NHTSA's MDB Side Crash Test of the 2024 Ford Mustang Coupe 2.3 EcoBoost Automatic. Rating based on 2011+ criteria.

Driver - Passenger HIC 386 - 519 * * * * * - * * * * (Five Stars - Four Stars) (Five Stars Overall Side Impact Rating)

This was interesting to watch for sure!

You mention this was based on 2011 criteria in your message. If this is true, then I think the testers may need to update their crasher car to resemble a midsized SUV. Cars are much larger and heavier in 2024+ compared to the midsized sedan that was still pretty common in 2011.

Especially if you get hit by an EV. Those things are tanks. Or imagine a cybertruck slamming into you. I love me a cybertruck, but it’s a nightmare scenario getting hit by one.

Might score better than the S550 did on euro ncap, although that test has just got harder again.
The 2017 car got 2/5*'s which is 1 more than i thought it might get.

They did resubmit it in 2017 (facelift) and got 3/5*'s for having fitted lane departure warning and autonomous emergency braking.

It will score better but I am not sure it will get any more stars due to those changes. Before I left Ford we redesigned the Euro HR's on the S650 to better score on the whiplash portion to help recover some of those points.

How are European S650s headrests different than the North American ones?

Damn, look at the seatbelts, they don't work at all.
Seriously. What’s even the point of the shoulder strap? it’s supposed to prevent you from smashing into the dash, steering wheel, etc 9regardless of airbags). Unless the euro standard is different (I.e. Just slowing your roll instead of managing you to a stopping point. these look defective.

Good catch.

The irony of complaining about 'EV tanks' when the trucks on US roads are twice the size! Model Y v F150 - F150 is heavier and much bigger.

European airbags were traditionally smaller than US ones as the 3 point strap means the body is presented differently to a 2 point / unrestrained person.

Clearly you need to go see an eye specialist.

Have a look at the position of the pull force sensor:

S650 Mustang Crash Testing Video: 2024 Ford Mustang Coupe NHTSA MDB Side Crash Test Bild 3752

I have not checked such videos of other cars though, but that was not my point.
The seatbelts in this video do not behave the way I would expect them to behave, that's all I wanted to say.
