The panels with the stitching look much better, plus the “new without stitching” are sorta textured plastic, whereas the ones with the stitching look and feel more like the brushed console.

Boy, I bet Ford made a real killing on the bottom line by eliminating the stitching on this little panel. What next? Seven pistons instead of eight?? I hate this kind of cheaping out.

And no, the accountants don't make this kind of decision. Management does.

Unfortunately it's not just Ford...

BMW does it as well. The airbag cover on the steering wheel used to be leather with stitching but now it's just plastic... One of many 'improvements' the refresh introduced...

So, just reverse that....how many more cars could Ford sell by making them "nicer" and not so cheaped out? A lot of people with the money, like me, are willing to spend more to get more in their cars that they may like.

As lame as it is, I seriously doubt any perspective buyer would open the door and think "id totally buy this car if only the leg bolsters were stitched and not plastic". Lol

That simply isn't where Ford are in the market.

In Europe they tried the Vignale spec with lots of leather etc. I had a Mondeo Vignale with genuinely fantastic leather including on the dash, trouble is nobody actually bought them other than me it seems!

At least our S650 are based on higher spec interiors now in the UK.
