I've never had a vehicle with a catch can so I decided to go downstairs and empty my J&L passenger side only catch can.

After a little over 2000 miles, it had a little "oil debris" in it. Not much, about 15% or 20% at most of the can capacity.

It was nasty looking and smelling oil that I definitely don't want going through my intake. Knowing and seeing that nasty stuff made the investment worthwhile to me. That also validates what people say here. Empty it at the 5000 mile oil changes if not before. That's as far as I will ever go between oil changes.

If you don't have one, there's some information. The J&L is a well built, billet material unit that is easy to install. FWIW.

I did the Ford catch can on my '25. It's my first time too. I haven't emptied it yet - we'll see what's in there at 5k mile oil change. I'm much more comfortable knowing it's in there and all that nasty crap isn't going back into my engine.

I bought the full Ford kit, but only installed the passenger side. It's a real nice kit, fit well.

You’re supposed to check much earlier than 5k. Should be every 1k for a little bit. You don’t want it filling up, sloshing around, causing an obstruction, and /or pouring oil into your intake. That’s the downside to having an air/oil separator. Lack of maintenance can be detrimental, you’re actually better off not having one.

Good advice. No, I don't want that nasty stuff going back into my engine. Knowing me, it will be checked much earlier than 5K miles.
