Hey guys,

As long tube headers aren’t legal here in CO I’m planning on upgrading my stock exhaust on s650 Mustang GT (Active exhaust) by getting Borla cat back. As S type has more deep tone which I guess would be perfect if I had long tube headers and Atak is more louder/raspier haven’t heard both of them in person. Is it possible to switch the X pipe with H pipe to make it less raspy? Any thoughts or have you seen anyone pair borla atak with h pipe?

I had the stype on my s550 without headers. It sounded great. I have long tube headers and AWE switch path on my s650 and it sound amazing deep tone. If you go long tube headers eventually H pipe is 100% the way to go

the only way to get an h pipe to work with the borla systems is to have a shop custom fab one for you or get them to do custom work on an aftermarket h pipe to fit. On my previous mustang I had a corsa HH pipe mated to the Borla s type axle back and it was great. As far as ATAK vs S type, my vote is always for S type. ATAK is way too loud, in fact S type is loud enough IMO. Subjective opinion though.

Edit: the 60661: https://www.borla.com/products/ford-mustang-gt-connecting-pipe-60661 exists which is a resonator with an H pipe inside that also works despite the description saying no.

I have Borla S-Type non-active installed on my 2024 Mustang GT. I have not heard the ATAK in person, but in Borla's video the ATAK seemed more raspy compared to the S-Type. For me, the S-Type is the right amount of volume and from start up/ in car the exhaust sounds deeper more so than raspy. I am curious how it sounds driving from the outside as I have not heard it that way.

I has S Type on my S550 non-active at the recommendation of a friend who also had one and had done lots of research. He did not choose Atak because of the droning in his opinion that it created in the cabin. I have heard others say that Atak can create too much noise and particularly droning in cabin when on the open highway and can become very tiresome.

I was very pleased with the S Type

With the active exhaust you can use the four modes to change the sound level to match your mood. If you want to be obnoxious when you feel like it, go with the ATAK. The S-Type kinda removes that from the equation.

My sons 2018 GT has the S-Type. He ends up using track mode pretty much all the time to make the sound he was after.

My GT500 has the ATAK, and I have it set to start in quiet mode at all times, and have yet to hear anything from the neighbors when I take it to work and leave at 5:30am.

Neither will drone. ATAK is really loud with the valves wide open. S Type is a little more tame but can still get loud when you get on the long pedal. I personally prefer the tone of the S Type, a little deeper IMO. ATAK brings out the rasp of the coyote a little more. Both sound good though. On a 10 scale for loudness, I’d say S Type is a 7 or 8. ATAK is a 10, maybe 11 LOL.

I’ve always love the tone of AWE, they use an H pipe. Haven’t heard the new switch path in person yet but I assume they tried to keep a similar tone as they had with S550. No drone with AWE either (at least with S550, would assume the same for S650), so that might be worth considering if you prefer the h pipe.
