Anyone else still doing a strict 1,000-mile break-in period? Or am I in the minority?

Am I part of a dying breed here worried about break-in?

I'm coming up on my first 1,000 miles and will be doing my first engine oil and filter change soon.

A few questions for those who have already gone through the break-in service:

Does the factory engine oil drain plug come with a magnet, or is it just a standard plug? Do ford dealer can install one?

Any recommendations?

Besides the engine oil, has anyone done a drain-and-fill on the Tremec TR-3160 6-speed transmission? I noticed Tremec recommends a fluid change after the first 500 miles.

Did you follow that recommendation, or did you wait until later?

Has anyone also changed the differential fluid during the break-in period? Did you notice anything unusual (metal on the magnet, fluid condition, etc.)?

I'm just curious what everyone is doing for their initial break-in service and whether it's worth going beyond the engine oil change.

Tks

Comes with a standard plug. Here's the magnetic plug I replaced it with.

If it were my car I would follow the recommendation. Fluid change is usually pretty easy (and cheap) process on a Tremec.

Not necessary. However, there's no such thing as changing the rear diff. fluid too often. If it makes you feel better, change it.
