2025 Mustang GT 10R80 Non-PP noise when downshifting

Without a video or something I'm only guessing here but it sounds like normal operation to me. If you're not using much accelerator the transmission goes through its shift phases more slowly. When you hit the paddle it makes noises as it goes into various different states before actuating the ratio change itself. Sounds kinda like a whirrr followed by two soft whirring clunks followed by the actual gear change. Hard to hear unless near a wall. Maybe this is what you're experiencing?

Yeah unfortunately every video i’ve tried to get is just catching wind noise. I’m going to attempt to have a buddy drive it tonight and see if it sounds less echoing than from inside to determine whether it would be normal operation or not.
I don’t recall hearing 2 clunks but I do really only hear it unless i’m by a wall/curb, it’s actually pretty pronounced with just the curb, but again i have to have my windows down, and music off to notice it.

Yeah… that’s no joke. That’s why I come to these forums because going to the dealer and getting actual help is like pulling teeth.

I agree. I have dealt with many dealers, and I’ve only ever experienced 1 that i’d recommend to anyone, but it was NOT a ford dealer, they have been no help in anything. I am very knowledgeable in cars, from owning close to a dozen in 10 years, i’ve built, bought, modified and sold, and this car has had more noises that are deemed “normal” than any car i’ve ever owned. At this point i’d feel i’m better off deeming everything normal until it no longer “feels” normal. I love the car, everything about it, bedsides the noises I hear that can either be detrimental issues, or normal operation.

Strange. I drove my car yesterday and it is one of the most noise free cars I've ever owned. It must have been built on a Tuesday.

LOL yeah, wish i could say the same. its pretty quiet and dialed in in auto mode, but anytime the paddleshifters are involved, it brings out a lot of noise. I do have the infamous BBQ tick, and whatever this noise i’m hearing, i’m hoping i can get a video to share with you guys this evening, because it’s almost like a “few few few” noise, but it’s typically only noticed with windows down, music off if i’m paying attention. Which maybe you guys do all hear it and just think it’s gear noise, but coming from manual only transmissions… never have experienced this before.

Maybe the best thing is to A) Just drive the car or B) Get rid of it if it bothers you too much. Life is too short to be bothered by things and people. Reject those two things and you are a completely free person. I'm working on it every day, LOL!

Yessir, working on that as well. Like i said, love the car, just like taking care of the things I work hard for. Will def try to get a video, and just enjoy the car!

Its really hard to speculate based on your description. Could be normal, could not be normal. Without a video or sound clip no one can say for sure. And I certainly wouldn't let the internet diagnose your car based on your OG post.

The only noise mine makes is the famous whine while in reverse. Sounds like a super charger. Its more noticeable after cold start-up. But its completely normal due to the straight cut gears.

Yeah, I have that whine, an actually enjoy it. I like the way that sounds, more mechanical. I am going to try and get a sound clip from the outside of the vehicle this evening, if i can, stay posted!

No way of telling if it's louder than normal but it's very possible the fluid is low.

.....the10R80 design/development was a joint Ford/GM venture. The 10R80 is very robust because it has straight cut gears that said there is a distinct whine if you are near an area that will allow reverberation. This noise is in no way a fault or mechanical problem - it's only a problem if you don't like the sound.

Straight cut gears? Unusual in this day and age. I don't mind the whine though. Same with blowers.
I'm just a whiney kinda guy.
