It’s just a shame that the colors on the configurator and in real life are not even close.

Looks like Ford updated the build pictures on the configurator, so the blue is closer to what the pictures look like for the wheels, still a little brighter blue than the actual pictures, but closer than it was. Maybe it is because I am older at 63, but I like the blue accents!

The California Special has never been more than an appearance package. Whilst the original '68 was Shelby inspired, it was only as far as appearance is concerned.

Not that there's anything wrong with it being just an appearance package it's just that, for me, it was a classy appearance package and those blue accents are a little much, for me at least.

This point is spot on.

There‘s significant irony in the fact that many of the great unwashed throw off on the recent Mach 1s as being “just a GT with stickers” while that’s pretty much what the lauded CS really is and has always been.

Oh well, human nature has always dictated that perception takes precedence over reality…

I spent over a year looking for a used GT/CS convertible. couldn't find a fully loaded one for sale.

When it came time to order a new 24, I was disappointed the CS was not an option. I really liked the "suede" seats, side scoops, different rear fascia and grille. Just something that stood out a bit to me.

I now have to say that it looks like I dodged a bullet. I would have been pissed if they offered this and I ordered it sight unseen (no offense to those getting one)

I guess my biggest problem is with the 1980 style wheels, the omission of micro-suede in the interior and maybe a functional side scoop like the GTD has to make it.... Special.

Let's get back to the proper emblems, and remember that it was one way that Ford was able to use Shelby fiberglass to bring its costs down. The next gen GT/CS used the same thinking n the body parts as well.

Thanks for the info! I have an order for one, scheduled for production the week of Jan 22. I chose white, white and blue being iconic Mustang/Shelby colors. 401A, performance pack, active valve, auto with 3:55 gears. I didnt realize the steering wheel upgrade for 401A, I like it!
