2024 Mustang Dark Horse — Whipple Stage 1, 10R80 — Persistent flutter/stutter + downshift clunk. Anyone seen this? (Taking it to Ford next week)

My understanding is: Don't lug the motor. Seeing knock retard in 8th/9th when going into boost is pretty normal. Your motor doesn't like it, don't do it.

Second, You really shouldn't be frequently going into boost in anything past 7th. The transmission from factory isn't physically designed to handle the torque of a supercharged whipple in those high gears. Whipple talks about this in their product literature.

I don't think chatgpt is being helpful on ideas 2 or 4. If it's an issue with the mapping, wouldn't *every* whippled 10r80 suffer from this? or more than just you? Honestly if anything my 10r80 shifts too firmly.

Check transmission fluid level, if it was a u-joint why would it matter what temp the transmission fluid is at. I'm pretty sure on whipple tunes if Knock retard says -4 that means its adding 4 degrees of timing. Throw a can of octane booster at it if you want to rule that out.

All of the behavior I described is while driving on the stock Ford transmission tune leveraging true auto. I'm not paddle shifting or intentionally lugging. I would assume if this is the issue, Ford would be able to identify this and recal the transmission to alter the behavior. I did drop it off yesterday and just received an update that they've put in a ticket with Ford to pinpoint an "issue." Not sure what it is yet, but will be sure to update the thread when I know more. I dont think its the whipple tune. I see them every day and their tunes are good. You might have an actual mechanical issue.

That's my thought as well. Plus, Whipple suggested I load the Ford Performance tune and the issue persisted. So considering it persisted across both tunes, I assume it's mechanical or a transmission mapping issue. Still with Ford, so I'm curious what they'll come back with.

Update: Ford cannot find any issues. Engine logs look good. Transmission logs look good. Torque converter looks good. Driveshaft alignment looks good. Frustrating. Side note: the tech that works on the car has always been a pleasure to work with. He's very thorough, and he's been on point on most trips in. I have no reason to believe this is a "we can't replicate it" and push me out of the door situation. He acknowledges he can feel it, they just don't know what it is, and all of the data and mechanical checks are clean.
