I get it now - traction in cold weather

I was surprised at the comments on here about traction in cold weather because I never noticed it in our normal winter temps.
But we've just had a cold snap with morning temps down around 1C and a low of -3c, there is no grip at all on P Zeros. Spinning up and sliding just gently pulling out of an intersection, is a laugh, until a cop sees you.

Yeah summer tires aren’t rated for below 45 F. At 0 they’re basically hockey pucks. Better to use all seasons or maintain a second set of tires. Good luck.

Thanks, but these a rare temps around here. Usually it's 8 - 10C minimum.

Nice! We spend 4-5 months of the year below freezing and bottom out at -40 c on the worst days.

Based on what you are saying, I assume your P-Zero tires are the summer variety. I drive my car all winter in PA, on dry roads, and I've never had a traction problem. Although, I do make sure the tires are warmed up before stretching her legs. My Conti's are all-season. Glenn

Thanks! I've done my share of spinning. One time, coming home from Canada through the Catskill mountains (R17) we hit an ice storm for about 10 miles. I was driving a Supra! Cars and trucks were everywhere, including in the woods. I did three 360's, in that section, but just controlled it and kept going. Glenn

I discovered why BMW 325i's have a bad rep for snap overtsteer turning into my narrow street one night and giving it a tad too much in 2nd., a lovely little 180 spin.
Missed the kerbs though.
