Anyone drive all winter?

I put on my 20” all-season setup and drive all winter in Chicago area.
I don’t have to drive in snow but love taking her out on a cold crisp day.
Couldn’t imagine not being able to have my therapy.

Yes, all my cars, to include the numerous Mustangs I've owned (GT500s, GT350, GTs, Super Snake, DHs), were all all-season, all-weather fighters. Never been in an accident (Summer or Winter)...but I drive very reasonably in Winter. My worry is usually the untrained in compacts and those overcome by inordinate hubris in their 4X4s. I've almost been taken out on a few occasions by that sort.

Raised in New England, CT, MA, and VT. Now live in CO (where I bought my first GT500 years ago and lived roughly 1k Ft above the Springs at the time. The end of my 25x2 mile daily commute was all uphill and never had a problem. I-25 was actually more dangerous than the getting up my house.).

You have to be practiced to drive in the snow--and you need good situational awareness as there are certain conditions that are just stupid to go out in.

I'm now back in my 2nd DH (handling pack w/SC) that, with a set of Steeda's Trident wheels I expect to pick up toward the Fall, will once again be my winter steed.

I've always driven my Mustang year round in SE Michigan. Drove through some big snow storms, big ice storms. Never had a problem.

People who say "you can't drive a RWD car in the winter" don't know what they're talking about. It's a matter of driving for the conditions. I grew up where the only FWD car was the Olds Toronado and we didn't put our cars away and break out the horse and sleigh! We drove on bias ply tires and drum brakes. You can't drive like it's a summer day is all.

And no weight in the trunk. All that does is increase your stopping distance, and if you do slide into the ditch, that weight comes through the seat and is going to be conveniently stopped by the back of your head.

Here in South Dakota our winters over the last couple of years have been milder. But I have to take into consideration the amount of salt on our roads after the snow melts.

So, during the winter months, I do drive our Mustang at least a couple of times each month during the winter.

I drive year round with my 2024 GT here in South Carolina with extremely mild winters with very little snow. However; when I lived in Minnesota, I survived driving my 2011 GT through the winter. It was not ideal, lol, but I survived and so did the car.

Just got my GT Convertible. And since I live in Ottawa, I’m not going to drive it in the winter. That said, I’ve been told that some people do.

Is that right? Does anyone here drive a Rear Wheel Drive Mustang with a V8 engine in a snowy winter? In other words, is there anyone living in a climate like mine who drives their Mustang all year round?

I live in michigan and drive mine year round. I do use winter tires in the winter though. It is dooable for sure, highway drives with a good amount of snow can get, tricky though. But as long as you dont drive hours a day for work, it'll be good enough.

its my daily, drove it all winter as well - Chicago suburbs! Even during the frigid temps is started without any issues.

I live in central Illinois. I replaced my summer tires ( listed in for sale section) with all season. I drive in all temperatures, but not when salt or snow is on roads.

Um......I have a cheat code, so I drive all year, even in Winter. The Shadows' winters are nothing like your winters, though......

@mwillems what's going to get you is the liquid brine they spray on the roads. Even on dry days the clouds of brine will work their way into every area of the underside of your Mustang and rust the hell out of it. The first question most purchasers will ask is "did you drive it in the winter?" I should know I have sold 7 of them. The smart ones will put it on a lift and look. Most of the time it's a 20% loss in price or they just move on - I would. The pinch welds, crucial to frame structure are particularly vulnerable. If you don't care about that at least I would take it to Oil Shield Rust Proofing at 4500 Bank Street. They open late August/early September. They use a light clear oil spray that is the best protection in your area. Costs about $120.00 CDN. and will really reduce rust damage. As for me, I would never drive a valued sports car in an Ontario winter - I would buy a cheap winter vehicle if I didn't already have a daily driver.

Sigh... I am torn. Salt bad... but life is short and not driving the toy is also bad... as for the coating: is that like Krown Coating?
