Hey Guys:

So I am a little disappointed. I thought I had ordered at the perfect timing to get the car for Spring, dealer is now telling me I might not see it till June.

On 1/15 I placed an order at the dealer. Ford confirmed it 1/23. They are not building the car until the week of 4/20. Is this normal?

I am super excited about getting my toy dream car, but I cannot help but think, why are they sitting on the order for 3 months, when I would like to buy it today.

Basically, I would love someone to tell me this is normal. I really wish I would have ordered earlier, I figured ordering 2nd week of January would get me the car around April 1st, I didn’t realize that I wouldn’t get it till June. In June the 27’s are right around the corner.

I ordered the closest new car to what I had in Highschool, Adriatic Blue, FX package, active valve exhaust 6 Speed MT.

Is ford sitting on a build for 3 months normal?

heduled Week Of

The order has been assigned to a plant and scheduled to a week.

Ordered mine 12/9/25 and it arrived at the dealer 3/9/26. Exactly 3 months for me and I had quite a few options ($16k worth).

That is what I wanted and expected. I am probably looking at 4-5 months from order to delivery. I think my problem is the FX package. With the unique seats, badging tail lights etc, I am betting they do those at specific time periods. If you don't mind me asking did they discount the factory order at all? If yes, how much off of list did you get?

It all depends, but yes, this could be normal.
1) does your dealer have allocation for the car being built? If not, you need to wait for that next allocation to be available, which might add a month or two
2) lots of people order Mustangs for Spring. Let's face it, Mustangs are 3 season cars in the minds of many. That means you are competing with others as they order their cars.
3) It's doing to depend on your options. If you order a rare or super popular option that has limited availability, you might be waiting a while. You might consider looking at the Long McArthur ford channel. They routinely post an update on the order situation for the ford vehicles. When I ordered my new superduty, I found it very helpful in understanding how the process works.

Yes, very normal if you know the scheduling process.

Scheduling in January occurs for builds in March. In February for builds in April. Scheduling normally occurs the third week if the month. If you had ordered your car in early January it probably would have gotten scheduled for a March build week. Dealers should explain this process to avoid customer disappointment. The info is also available in this forum. And, remember that delivery can take a few days up to a month once it is built.

The fact that it is scheduled indicates that the components for your particular build are projected to be on the line for your car.

I had ordered from my dealer previously so they considered me a “preferred” customer, so they ordered it for me with $0 deposit and my sales price was 4% below invoice, matching the Granger Ford pricing. And that was the price I paid when it arrived. Cars sitting on their lot costs them money, so they knew this one was sold! And if I didn’t take it they would have sold it for a higher price undoubtedly.

I ordered early Jan 2025, made the scheduling in January for a March 13 build week. Was built as scheduled but it missed the train to Denver and I was nit delivered to me in Colorado Springs until April 18th.

BTw, love the car!

I am super excited, I had a 7 up LX 5.0 Fox body when I was 16 and this is about as close to that as I can get with a modern car. Thanks for the information. the dealer told me it could be as soon as 2 months, I was thinking I hope it doesn't come that soon, I don't want snow on the ground. If I could have found what I wanted at any dealers lot, I would have gotten it that way. This is a super rare car, I need a MT/active valve. I found one in the entire country, that is why I ordered it. From what I am aware, they are only making 2,500 FX's...

yes, my dealer (out of state) was the only one to give me a discount off of MSRP on a custom order - and approached several in my area. They gave me a $3k discount when I ordered and then another $1500 rebate when I took delivery. Not sure where that came from since it wasn’t shown as an ‘incentive’ on the Ford website. I didn’t ask. 😉

Oh, and I had a priority code of 19 which is the default. A lower code will give it a higher a priority and in theory, it should be built sooner.

It will depend on a few things but Mustang sales being up +50% in January and February isn't going to help that either. Also the biggest lie a dealer can tell you is that it will be delivered in X months. They have no input or insight into that.

From what I understand, this is typical:

S650 Mustang Timing between order and delivery. 3 months normal? IMG_5583

Where things get complicated is certain options may delay builds if Ford is out of parts, and I understand that they do not build the Dark Horse with the handling package during the coldest winter months.

OP it depends on the options you ordered. If there is something specific that Ford is having a tough time sourcing parts for, delays like this absolutely happen and is normal.

Based on what I've read 3 to 6 months is normal build to order. I also was expecting to have to order a car. As I got closer to purchase I kept an eye out. Suddenly, a dealer that was only 4 mi from my house got the car I wanted. First color choice and all. When I reviewed the Monroney sticker I was shocked. It had everything I wanted minus about $583 in purchasable options. Sign from God 🤣 I paid well below MSRP. If you are not an effective negotiator or are not comfortable with confrontation or dealing with others who have strong personalities you should bring a friend or a family member who is. Its easier to negotiate on a car they have on the lot. Negotiating on a car you're ordering is more challenging.
