Hi, yes it's a 10 speed and no I haven't changed oil pump gears yet. I know it's probably a good idea to change them and I'm hoping to do that soon.

Since the oil pump gears wouldn't know the difference between NA or FI and the crank sprocket loads are also isolated from loads driving the supercharger, why do I keep reading about concerns with the OEM powdered metal gears, especially with manual transmission applications? Is it more about resonant frequency issues, regardless of the engine being boosted or NA, due to tunes that typically increase maximum engine RPM?

Because parts companies want to sell parts and people repeat what they hear like blind monkeys. Ford has also improved the gears over the generations of engines since 2011.

How many broken oil pump gears have you seen people post here?

That's something I've wondered about. I don't track the car. Just the occasional you know, take off fast the light kind of thing and I'm not hard on it. So that's why I haven't jumped into changing that out yet. I know it couldn't hurt to replace them but there's other things I'm more concerned with that I needed to do first. Most important thing was getting the dealership to warranty replacing my catalytic convertors that went bad and once they did that I ordered and received the LTH and will install then this week. Everything else can wait. Since I live in California and our smog laws are so stupid I wanted to have good Cats so when the time comes to smog the car I can put them back in and get that done. That's if I still have it 7 years from now. Just to be safe you know.

Good point. Haven't seen many posts about them failing.

Bouncing off the rev limiter causes “play and snapback ” in the chain/gears for lack of a better term.

So holding it on the limiter is what can lead to them failing… not making power and shifting

Mostly on manual transmissions. If you order the new Shelby gt350 with the supercharger option they do change the oil gears as well. So if Shelby is aware of the issue I would change them as well.

Where did you hear that?
The Ford performance kit doesn't...

I think that’s not true on the GT350, I don’t think they touch OPGs.

the older gt500s do have a different/stronger set OEM. Those are the recommended upgrade, not aftermarket, but they’re expensive

I apologize you are right, Shelby doesn't replace opg's on stage 1 setups. I was researching the web and I thought I seen it somewhere but after digging much more into it they do not replace them.

Ordered Stainless Works lth’s. Anyone on here have lth, with h pipe and factory mufflers? Bonus points if you have a video, lol.
I've been running Stainless Works LTH (with High Flow CATs) with a Borla SwitchFire X-Pipe on my Dark Horse for over a hear now. I love the setup and get a lot of "Damn your car sounds great" comments. They only problem I have is the occasional CEL (I have a pair of XForce 02 Sensor With Mini Cat Convertor installed but still get a CEL. Keep in mind I installed LTH long before tuning was available).

Thank to @beefcake sale over the holidays Whipple stage 2 has been ordered, I am waiting for delivery.

I don't have a video of the complete installation or under the car but I do have cold start video in the garage I can upload if you are interested.

Why is the tuning comment in there? Is it still not tuned? Will tuning cure the CEL issue?

I knew going in that I could get a CEL before tuning but I also knew I was going to add a Whipple so I wasn't overly concerned about the CEL. Fixing (tricking) your car with exhaust foulers (also known as Mini Cats or spark plug extenders) is hit or miss. I put almost 700 miles on my car around Thanksgiving with no CEL. Took it for a spin around the block another day doing a few pulls along the way and boom CEL. The way my car is setup at the moment the CEL will clear itself in one or two drive cycles, I don't have to get my scanner or Forscan out to clear the codes.

All I am saying is that these cars tuned for their stock CATs, as soon as you remove those you run the risk of the CEL unless you get your car tuned. Just wanted you to be aware since I was chiming in on the thread and have a similar setup to what @bdm219, you, or others may be planning.

Just my opinion though, I'm sure others can chime in an offer their own experience.

Thanks, even if it is disappointing to read.

Are tuners actually getting rid of the CEL for no cats?
