New member, 2024 Dark Horse. I will be picking up my car in a couple of days and there is no mention of a block heater on the window sticker and I'm not sure if there is one. I live in New Brunswick, Canada and have to park outside during winter. Is it possible to have a block heater installed in the Dark Horse? I will share photos when I get the car and definitely have more questions so thank you very much!

As something of a backup, if pressed for time, you might want to check out dipstick heaters.

Maybe not ideal, one could get you through this season.

Can the dipstick heater just sit there with the cord hanging off in the engine bay? I had read about those but not much. I was also wondering about oil pan heaters but then again, I can't really get under my car easily and also wondered if that impacts getting Krown undercoating every year. ah well, lots of questions that I may post separately later. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, BTW. :fistbump:. :like:.

I don''t see why not, so long as things are routed and secured well.

After installing the element into the tube, I'd start looking off to the side for an initial mounting point. I'd pass on the strut tower brace; it's a heat sink.

If the cable is run immediately to the side, you'd want to leave a slight amount of slack from the tube to the first mounting point. Not so tight as to yank on anything. Not so loose as something would droop down onto the exhaust.

After that first tie, straight towards the front, along the fender. You'd have to look and visually feel around. In the area of the headlight, there are some gaps. Might also be some ports or holes in the front facade that will accommodate routing to the front.

Velcro strip fasteners come to mind. They don't need tools and can be changed quickly, in-case something needs to be adjusted, or, at end of season when it'll be removed. Or when it's time to check the oil.

^ This is a thread with some photos of the factory block heater cord connection. Ford leaves the plug end tucked in near the front grill.

Like battery tenders, you could leave the plug end under the hood, or route something outside, so you can hock up without opening the hood.

Edit,

If the block heater option doesn't initially work out and you go the dipstick heater for this winter, measure the existing dipstick before shopping. I'd give you the measurements for mine, but I've got a different generation car and engine.

Good Luck. :please:

I have also seen that thread, pretty much searched for everything and anything related. Thank you for the info. I will confirm presence/absence of block heater this coming week and may be back asking more questions. Thanks for the info!

Darkhorse I believe was not available with a block heater... the GT could be ordered with one as an option (unless PP). Dealer may be able to fit that one ( HL3Z6A051A ) to the car... unless the DH or PP is using the spot where it plugs in.

@zerobio ..... I think you have a pretty good chance of having a block heater installed on a "Canadian" model. Ford knows your DH is headed to Canada as your ordering dealer will have a Canadian dealer code. Fingers crossed. If not a professional removal of a frost plug and insertion of a heating element is by far your best bet. I assume you don't get much below -20C for any lengthy periods in NB?

You may be right about that. I will know in a couple of days and let you all know what happens.
