This affordable EV truck sounds like a new Ranchero to me

Radical new shape that's a truck, but not really a truck in terms of looks, described as a new silhouette, others who've seen it have described it as sleek and aerodynamic. Unheard of aero for a truck developed by F1, now we know it's RWD, car based platform, with more downforce than a mustang, and a 0-60 time as fast or faster than a mustang Ecoboost.

Some say it's closer in size to a maverick than a ranger. So a maverick sized truck that doesn't look like a conventional truck that's fast, RWD, and good handling with a lot of downforce, that sounds like a new ranchero to me. I'll add Ford trademarked the ranchero name recently.

Parking a lithium-ion powered EV in your garage has been commonplace since mass-produced EVs started hitting the market ~15 years ago. Sounds like someone has been spending a bit too much time reading fear-mongering EV posts on Facebook again.

The range will be enough for 'most' people but not enough for some people.

The mach-e starts at sub 40 and this new EV platform is a lot more affordable than that one.

This truck doesn't use lithium ion batteries, but LFP batteries which are much cheaper, last about twice as long so realistically 20 years, and have virtuslly no fire risk relative to lithium ion batteries.

As for range, all Ford as said is the battery is a lot smaller and cheaper than their gen 1 EVs like lighting and mach-e, but they haven't compromised on range. Anything over 250 would be great, especially for the price.

We don't really have a truck culture here. We have lots of utes, but that's mainly a tax dodge.
So I don't get the truck thing and I hate the EV thing.
I guess this truck isn't my thing.
Some will love it.

Ditto with me here only there is a truck culture here. Big huge lifted trucks, 4 wheel drive is a must, diesel whether needed or not and if it can be afforded (or not), incredibly expensive huge aftermarket wheels and huge tires but no need to ever take it off road and get it dirty.....

The toxic fumes that are emitted by a lithium battery in thermal runaway are very real.



CATL begin production of sodium-ion EV batteries in December.
Despite the lower energy density (compared to Li-ion), they are much safer.


I trust the word of a real firefighter as opposed to some random knuckle head on FB.

Yes but Ford have clearly said the new platform is immensely flexible so can underpin cars, ute's etc

Indeed battery technology is moving very fast. Sodium based seems to be a strong alternative now in use. Some of the new chemistry can withstand a direct impact through the cell without any risk of thermal runaway etc.

Yep, can't wait to see what else they come up with. There looks to be a hatchback under a sheet in the background of one of their vids so hopefully whatever that is ends up being cool.
