Just curious what were the symptoms? I have never melted cats before.
I would guess one of the first signs would be a CEL since the downstream sensor is going to be contaminated or just not switching correctly as the converter is melted and not doing whatever it is it does in there.

If they blocked the flow you would be down on power too

Rattling as everything bounces off the case, and if it spits parts out you might hear it in the mufflers too

It has been a while since I have seen a melted cat on a car in the shop, in the bad old days if an injector was stuck open and pumping raw fuel into the cat it could melt one

700.00 up my guess about the same down but I prefer to drive it down
I'm in the transportation industry, and while automotive transports are a niche market, I would not count on it only being 700 to go down to Miami. There is very little coming out of South Florida, so rates going in are generally much higher than coming out. Just keep that in mind if you do decide to ship it.

My plan is to enjoy the 810 ponies on the mountain roads down to the jungle where I live. Hopefully before winter.

I worked with Cameron.

Drove my car back home safe and sound now!
Glad to hear things went well. I am working with Cameron too. I prefer not to bypass the ford warranty but I may have too. I will make a decision next week.

Thanks for the update.

The only symptom was a check engine light that came on shortly after a redline pull thru 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear on my way to dinner on a Friday night. It didn't sound or feel any different after the CEL came on. Since the CEL is so uninformative, once it came on, I went really easy on the engine on the way home, didn't drive it over the weekend, and took it to the dealer Monday morning.

I usually ship in an enclosed trailer and not an open hauler, Miami to Ohio would be at least double that.

Question: Do we think the same melting would happen with High Output Green cats from Kooks?

I'm planning for a Whipple hopefully by this time next year, gathering data and results in the meantime while I get the scratch together and still need to add headers. I want to get the HO Green cats for precisely this reason, but it would be naive to assume they'd hold up where these didn't without knowing the issue.

I like the timing theory, as in there's too much. My pet theory is because they're being cautious with the warranty support at stake, the tuners left partial and full throttle super rich to keep things cool and prevent detonation, so much so, they fouled the cats with piles of raw hydrocarbons. Shot themselves in the foot.

Amirite?

There is no telling what it could be. I’m 15k miles into my car with plenty of fun and a few road trips. Car performs wonderfully. I’ve gotten the “rotten egg” smell only once after a pull last year but never again. I’m eager to see what the hold up is and what the resolution will be. I’m running the FP version of the Whipple and bought the car from dealer stock with it already installed.

Some people have had them fail but plenty of people report they handle 1000hp fine

I spoke with a ford performance tech guy today and that was one of my questions (if I should install high flow cats) and he recommended against it. He said the new tuning that should be coming out next week should address the problem with the cats melting. But in my opinion after your warranty runs out it would not hurt. You may need an O2 sensor spacer to adjust for the extra exhaust flow.

What causes this?

Ugh. Did cars smell like that before cats?

random post on FB:

"I put Kooks catless on my procharged GT and it was great accept my wife complained how bad the car smelled at red lights and how rich it ran so I put the kooks Greens HO on and it took care of the richness at the lights but they only lasted about 6 months before the insides turned into a ball and clogged my exhaust."

You were running rich at red lights? Where did you get your tune?
