Im wondering if anyone else has noticed this in NSW? or anywhere else, but I've noticed recently that councils appear to be filling up pot holes and making other road repairs with these trucks that spray out wet tar coated small gravel. This is nice, but they dont clean up the excess and when you drive over or near it it sticks to your tyres and flings off everywhere potentially causing stone chips and tar spots on the paint and also can cause windscreen damage if your following or a car comes the other way and crosses the gravel. Its not a very good operation, there is no warning signs of loose gravel etc.
I feel they should be more accountable for this as its potentially causing damage to peoples cars through negligence. They should at least be sweeping the loose gravel off the road, I cant see why they couldn't use a powerful leaf blower and blow it to the side of the road even.
Has anyone else experienced this lately, it seems to be an increasing occurrence ?
I feel like writing to the councils in question and making a complaint.

On the surface I agree with you, but you can't hold them accountable to rock chips. You can't prove it was their piece of gravel they didn't sweep up that caused a chip or fracture in your windshield.
When it rains and gravel gets on the roads from flowing water, who is to blame?
Mother Nature?
Good luck with that one.

Either NSW taught the U.S. how to do this or vice versa. It is rather assinine. The govt. doesn't care or they wouldn't be doing it.

In Pennsylvania we tar and chip everything. Seeing a nice pothole free paved road is an exception.
All summer long I've been driving on alternate routes to get to car cruises. We are blessed with tar and chips everywhere.
Maybe if we would spend some money in the USA rather than blowing it all over the world, we would have better highways!

55 years ago they used to do that at my parents house back alley it was to help keep dust down.

It's the cheap way to do things. It's done here, they lay the new chipseal and then let cars act as rollers and leave loose chips there for days.
I chipped my screen on the first decent road trip.

I have just emailed the council area in question to bring to their attention the problems, mostly from the point of view of damaging peoples windscreens due to the loose sticky gravel, arguing that they should at least be putting warning signs up in regards to loose gravel and tar spraying, and if not fully sweeping it off with a street sweeper.
If anything comes of it will advise. Someone has to raise these issues, probably the more that complain the better the outcome.

Are there not temporary speed limits in place - there are in the UK

There's a lot to be said for driving about in an older 4wd.

Tyres and suspension that can handle the potholes and bodywork you don't care too much about.

I can, and I will. You do not know this country, you do not know how things work, or don't work as the case may be.
Snotty response totally unjustified.

I do know that a temporary speed limit is there for a reason and if it is ignored it is not the fault of the road repairer - not sure why that has caused you so much angst.

Take a chill pill before you respond next time.
