Would a minor hit from behind affect gas tank sensors?

I don't know if I titled this thread correctly, but here's my situation:
I was at a stop light and was bumped a couple times from behind by a dump truck. I have a 2019 GT. The damage seemed minor, but when I went
to get gas later that day, the pump cut off after about 10 gallons (should have been about 13-14 gallons). I tried to add more gas and it cut off again and gas backed up out of my tank. When I started my car, the miles to empty was 290 when it should be about 390-400.
I haven't yet sorted out insurance, so a mechanic hasn't looked at anything, but does anyone here know if those bumps by the truck would affect my gas tank and sensors like that?

If it was really minor, the gauge shouldn't be affected. That said, if the hit was harder the tank could have been bent or the sensor arm may not be moving freely. Make sure you add that to the list of items to be inspected as sometimes dropping the fuel tank could be much more costly than you think.

Thank you for the input.

Seems like the filler tube probably got bent. Just let the mechanic know, they'll find it.

Ha, yes. We were sitting at a stop light and he had stopped behind me. I'm assuming he started looking at his phone and forgot I was there, so he must have looked up, not seen me but saw space between him and truck in front of him, and tried to pull forward but I was in the way! He was very apologetic and said he didn't see me.

Hi Rob. Just FYI. Questions regarding your 2019 S550 should be posted on the M6g forum. This forum is for the 2024 S650.

I had something similar happen when I was 19 but I was on a motorcycle. One minute I was sitting on bike waiting on light and next minute I was laying in the intersection and rolling to avoid cars

If the tank is not accepting gas and it is not full then you need to get your EVAP system checked.
Please do not force gas into the tank. You can damage the EVAP system that way.

What RJV15 says.... Never overfill the tank, even if things are working. When the nozzle "pops" stop filling, unless it moved or something similar.

I believe the owner manual says when it stops wait 15 seconds and then refill.
