Well....started the car this morning to goto work and it was about 3 seconds of blue smoke then it was gone. At lunch time I started the car to go get food and blue smoke again for about 3 seconds. At the end of my shift I started the car and again....blue smoke for about 3 seconds.

Has anyone else had this issue? 5.0 GT

I know it's not normal. just wanting to know if anyone else has had this issue. I don't see it when I'm accelerating away from a light or stop sign

If you drive somewhere, the local mini-mart for example and come out and restart your car does it smoke?
Sounds like valve stem seals to me.
Of course it could be a 100 other things.
I would schedule a service appointment to document it.
Might be something simple but make sure you document it .
Best wishes!

wasn't there a engine problem on some early build cars?

Blue or white smoke is oil. Black smoke is fuel. It sounds like oil is getting into the cylinders through the valve seals. It could be a defective valve seal, damaged valve guide or bent valve. Somebody made a mistake when they assembled one of the heads and the only way to fix it will be to pull the upper end of the engine apart so they can find the problem. It's very rare to see something like that happen but that is what happened to a car currently stored in our shop. Sorry to see that happen to you but it would be best to get the car back to ford as soon as possible because continuing to drive it could cause more damage depending on the problem.

Here we go again with Ford's quality issues. 👀 I smell another recall on its way.

Sorry OP, definitely take your car into the dealer and make it their problem. I have not heard anyone else having this issue, but I am curious... how did you discover the blue smoke at start up? I'm sure there are others that are having this issue but are sitting in the car and driving away without even realizing it is happening to them as well.

I have not had this issue. Like a few others, my initial thought would be a faulty valve guide letting oil into the cylinder. Have you noticed any oil loss on the dip stick? Either way a trip to the dealer is on order.

I checked the oil yesterday when I got to the hotel. Level looks fine so far

Production was halted very early on for identifying and correcting some specific engine issues, but I never read a definitive statement as to what the problem was. There's a big difference between "valve cover gasket" and "valves" or "valve guides". Something involving the keyword "valve" was common in the articles read.

Agree with others: it sounds like oil in the head is seeping past the valve stem seal/s and into at least one cylinder.

It's my belief the Service Techs will open a case with Ford, take readings and perform an initial analysis. Ford Engineering/Corporate will review those findings and direct the necessary fixes.

@Ford Motor Company

Sorry you're having to deal with this. FWIW, if it is defective stem seals or their installation, replacement doesn't require a teardown; I like that. And if it is the seals, I'd like to think Ford will replace all of them, every valve, not just the suspect ones.

How’s the air temp been where you are? Not saying it ain’t not saying it is, just checking…. Are we sure it’s blue (oil) smoke and not a little bit of condensation steam?

It’s definitely not condensation and it’s bluish in color. This morning it only did it out the right side for a couple seconds on startup

Air temp has been about 79 to 85 depending on time of day
