It's really not. It's a supercharger. Just because it has an impeller and a volute doesn't make it a turbocharger. They don't behave the same way and there's an entire exhaust side that a turbocharger has than a centrifugal does not. The turbo also doesn't have the step-up drive a centrifugal does.Someone said on a video it's a turbo with a belt drive. Looks like a turbo anywho.
Calling it a belt driven turbo is misleading. It's a belt driven supercharger just like a Whipple or TVS. Just like nobody calls a turbocharger an exhaust driven supercharger. Heck, the first turbos were called "turbo superchargers"
"A centrifugal supercharger is a specialized type of supercharger that uses natural centrifugal energy to force additional oxygen into an engine. Increased airflow into the engine allows the engine to burn more fuel which results in increased engine power output.
At its most basic, a centrifugal supercharger is driven off the engineâs crankshaft and feeds compressed air into the engine. The centrifugal supercharger is generally attached to the front of the engine with a rigid bracket and driven via a belt-drive or gear-drive from the engineâs crankshaft."
